If only we had a social media intern to take the reigns!

[reins]

Virgin just changed my fly-in fly-out to Melbourne tomorrow. Was meant to be flying out at 7am, now I get to fly out at 6am…

A few years ago though, we were getting heaps of social media posts about players doing joint barbecues, going out to the beach etc. Stuff like that helps to also build on a club image and helps to sell the club to both external stakeholders as well as helps to convince other players that the lifestyle here is actually quite good. If I had to choose between a company that shows just purely business vs a company that shows business plus some fun stuff to the world, i’d generally go for the latter (assuming the money was similar)

Probably why we lost Nathan Paull to CCM, no way we could compete with Cumdog hitting golfballs out of reserve keepers arse cheeks.

While I understand the sarcasm, the general consensus during the Arnold era, was the fact that the culture of the club was completely turned around, where players were being encouraged to socialise and become a closer, tightknit family. A large part of what we saw, was through exactly these types of social media posts, otherwise, as supporters, we would have had zero clue and would have assumed the same. While i’m not sure how true it was, Arnold mentioned during an interview that some players were happy to come on lower wages to SFC because they wanted to be part of the SFC mentality and culture.

Wasn’t being sarcastic towards you. That was just my flow on take from the entire discussion above, also referencing the type of social media posts that pique interest.

You make very valid points about the culture stuff.

Second time in 3 visits to my local Dan Murphy’s there has been no trolleys available. Both times I was told that they would be here in a minute. After 5 minutes I told the staff I was going elsewhere.
The response was it isn’t our fault we do not collect the trolleys we sub contract the task.

Lost me.

I don’t know if you need to hear this - but anybody who does, telling this to anyone who works in retail does not give the slightest fuck if you go elsewhere.

I don’t know why people still shop at Dan Murphy’s.
The only thing that they’re better than the majority of competitors in is their ranging of wine. You can pretty much guarantee if you are walking in off the street that you are going to be able to get a bottle of the higher end products. They also carry a much larger selection of international wines than you may find elsewhere.

As for pricing though, it is an absolute myth that they’re any cheaper than anyone else. Yes, some products may be cheaper but you get that at any store depending on the promotional program. Their cheapest price guarantee is on the retail price of their competitors, not the special price.
As with grocery shopping, if you shop around you can save a lot more than just shopping at the one shop.

I recommend shopping at your local independent. You will get a much better quality of service, get treated like a regular and you will generally find that they stock a good range of local products.
Shameless self plug here but I know the vast majority of my regulars names and what they drink and I’ll let them know if there’s a good special coming up on their product. If a customer wants a product that I don’t stock I order it in for them and give them a call when it arrives. It’s called basic customer service and it’s not something you’re going to get from Dan Murphy’s and the like.

100% agree with you. Generally, I try to avoid shopping at Dan Murphy’s but I generally shop for either beer or whisky. If it’s wine, it’s definitely hard to beat, but there’s only a handful of really good cellars in the local area that have that extra step in customer service. For wine, i’ll generally go to Summerhill Cellars as the service is phenomenal. I will say it’s hard to not use Dan Murphy’s though, at least you know the selection is fairly constant for spirits etc. and they’re everywhere

People will shop at Dan Murphy’s because it’s a supermarket.

Supermarkets are convenient.

Also, it’s the closest place I can go to in my area that sells a decent range of beer. My local bottleshops in my area only sell your mass brewed macro lagers. I’ll buy from them if I want a 6 pack of Great Northern or a long neck of VB at 20 to 8 in the fucking morning. But when I want something a little different, I don’t have a craft bottle shop anywhere near mine. So Dan Murphy’s will do, and it’s convenient and I go past 2 on the way home from work.

I made the mistake of asking my local Glenquarie Tavern drive through if they had any 4 Pines Pale Ale when I first moved in, because I do like to support small businesses and the bloke looked at me like I had asked him in Parsletongue. He then shifted from one foot to another uneasily and told me he’d never heard of it. When further prompted if he had any craft beers, he said all they had was Coopers Light.

Other than that, they’re OK if you want a 6 pack of something quick.

I buy my wine and malt whisky from Nick’s in Victoria. They have the best range of whisky in Australia and an massive wine list at good prices. Delivery is free (orders over $200).
Yes I am aware of the carbon cost.
Dan’s is convenient when I need a a slab of beer and usually have trolleys to transport it to your car in an easy carpark.
FFS when I was a student I worked 3 years part time in a bottle shop and used to carry cases of DA and Flag Ale to customers cars as part of the service.

We still carries for customers. We also still walk around with a box so that the oldies can fill it up without having to carry it.
That level of service hasn’t disappeared, it just doesn’t exist at the chains because it doesn’t have to.

Where are you located?

I’m sure you’d be able to find a Cellarbrations, Bottle-O or Thirsty Camel somewhere near you. Not sure what beers you’re looking for but they’re going to have all of your major “craft” labels as they’re core ranging. If you can’t find what you’re looking for ask them if they can get it for you.
Where I was previously we had 2 full doors of craft that came through ALM which means it is easy for them to order in. Only our local content was through direct accounts.

Where I am now, I’ve gone from 1/2 door of mainstream craft to 3 doors. One of them is entirely local stuff and was easy for me to do despite the convoluted ordering process my company uses.

Fucking Hillsbus or whatever they call themselves these days. I catch the bus to and from work. Twice this month we have had to pull over half way home due to mechanical issues and wait for another bus. The one I’m on at the moment is so loud my noise reduction headphones aren’t even blocking it out. Number 3 coming up I think.

Don’t these fuckers ever do any maintenance?

You could have just said “buses”. That alone is a totally legitimate gear grind.

Dan Murphy also has the online ordering and will bring it to your car, don’t even have to go in the shop. Great for gimpy fucks like me

My bus this morning nearly wiped out some old Karen who decided to walk out in front of us as we were moving. Hit the brakes so hard and older gent on the side seat flew forward and hit his head. Worse still was the lady who had walked out was completely oblivious to what she had done.
