First Gear-Grind of the new Forum

That’s what i’ve been struggling with, with the wife and the MIL. It’s always a trade-off. What i’ve seen with the MIL is she wants us to buy an older house we can do up, but one that has a modern layout. Stuff like that just simply doesn’t exist.

In my experience, you buy houses with your heart rather than your head. Your heart makes the decision, then your head tries to rationalise it. Your MIL just wasn’t feeling it and looked for reasons to confirm that. If it wasn’t that, then she wouldn’t have liked the colour of the drain pipes or something. Sounds like you might be the opposite.

When we were house hunting the definitely must be were:
Full brick.
Double lock up garage.
Large block (trad quarter acre)
Preferably with some sort of view.
Stay in budget.

We bought a mid century Pettit and Sevitt style, timber, open plan on three levels.
Single carport.
Smaller block.
Way over budget.

Why?
We fell in love with it when we first saw it. Best decision we ever made.
Sometimes your heart knows better than your head.

Original Pettit and Sevitt houses are going to be good investments if they haven’t been fucked with too badly.

Anybody ever been stuck in a lift?

Had a heart stopping moment at work today when our lift I was in stopped mid-floors, and then lurched twice, dropping by about 30cm each time before grinding its way to my floor. Everyone on the ground floor and my office floor heard it. A giant banging, rumbling, and gear hrinding noise.

Safe to say I freaked a bit, and the lift is no longer in use. I’ll be taking the stairs from now on in I think.

I generally look at both. Problem is that i’ve found the houses I fall in love with are out of our budgets. The last one both of us fell in love with was absolutely on point. Modern duplex but big backyard, perfect positioning, vegie garden with fruit trees, solar panels, rain water, big garage etc. Even had a Polish owner, it just felt right. Went 300k over our budget.

It was just such a weird switch from “love it” it “hate it”

A literal gear grind.

Got stuck between the 17&18 floor for about 90 minutes once… we finally got the foor open but could only see peoples feet on level 18 but at least we had air

I got stuck once in a packed lift for about 5 seconds and could feel a panic rising within me. I reckon I could fit about 5 full blown panic attacks into a 90 minute spell stuck in a lift. I don’t know whether it’d be worse being alone or stuck with a lot of people, hope I never find out.

There was an old urban legend in our old office that once the lift doors opened and the lift itself had malfunctioned, so someone half stepped into an empty cavernous hole before realising at the last second there was no floor.

School pickups. If youre in High School and still getting mum or dad to pick you up then good fucking luck to you.

I live near the Shore playing grounds. Try and drive past at 4pm without getting stuck in traffic for ages.

Also the students are the rudest fucks known to man when wandering around the shopping centre next door.

If it were legal to uppercut people who were cunts there would be a few broken jaws…

I drive home along new South head Rd. Not a single one of those private school kids is catching a bus :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Ordered uber eats as weve both had rough days. Wanted fish and chips from a rrally good local place and didnt want to drive. I clicked the wrong place and ordered from some really dodgy looking place…

I once met up with an Ex for the first time since we broke up 12 months previously, we had literally just said hello and then got into a lift, only for it to break down and get stuck for close to 2 hours. It was packed as well, so no room to sit down and one girl had a massive panic attack. It was awkward as fuck.

So how was it?

inedible

Ill get a craving for fish and chips every couple of months but i never enjoy it…

I’ll only buy Fish & Chips when I’m at the beach, or by the water. Something special about it.

These go fucking hard though. Pop 4 in the air fryer with some frozen chips - absoloute mid-week CBF cooking life hack right here.

14 fillets for $10, Woolies have a winner winner fish dinner.

We’re right near Aces Seafood in Rydelmere. For such a random spot, they’re really really good. Proper wog mentality, reminds of what Ocean Foods used to be on Lyons Road. Those guys used to be absolutely amazing, but feels like the fame got to their heads and they slowly went down hill.

100% that place used to be amazing… last time I went there it was absolute shite.

Now prefer going to the local place in Leichhardt

My issue with most fish and chip places these days is the standard used in the battered fish or fish cocktails is basa. Its not great for the fish stocks but I did prefer when gummy shark was the standard.
