First gear lubrication on the new forum

I don’t buy a lot from Apple stores, but once on a work trip in the US I needed to get a new charger.

I grabbed what I wanted off the shelf, but their whole “we don’t do queues” thing was weird because there’s nowhere to go if you just want to pay for something.

In the end, I ordered and paid for the item using the app and selected pickup in store (where I was already). Even more weird was that the pickup instruction was to go to the store, help myself to the item and walk straight out.

I was so ready for alarms to go off and to be crash tackled by Rent-A-Mall-Cop for shoplifting.

Not living in Darwin.

Got my first electricity bill since being back in civilisation. Was paying $700+ a quarter up there. Just got this quarter’s bill, and it’s $70.98.

That’s actually amazing, are you sure it’s for the whole quarter? I’m guessing it includes some sign on bonus?

I’m amused there isn’t “Android” stores. Google’s approach seems to be “Here buy this phone & work it out yourself, you’ve got half a brain”

I’m guessing its because you had the AC running full blast 24hrs a day?

My bedroom overnight, and loungeroom whenever I was home. But electricity is super expensive up there, cos there’s only one provider (which is still heavily government subsidised).

Just checked the bill, and there’s the $75 gov rebate and a signing bonus. But still would have been $220 otherwise.

The government rebate was this quarter, check your bill as that night have offset it. I was equally confused even that happened to me.

I got an ex-racer Greyhound about 3 months ago now. She’s been terrified of pretty much everything that whole time. She’s played with her toys in front of me twice, and wagged her tail once during that time. Normally she won’t eat her food until I go to bed, where she alternates between eating/drinking/zoomies for half an hour. If I try and sneak downstairs to watch, she stops and goes back to sitting on her bed.

Because of the rain today, we didn’t go for our usual walk. She’s been a bit agitated all night, so I got down on the floor and tried to pay with her, and for the first time ever, she alternated between rolling on her back for belly rubs, and play fighting with me :face_holding_back_tears:

Best night ever

One of my friends son got one as well.
He and his partner went overseas so his mum looked after it for them. She was worried that it would be far too big for her (she’s only 165cm and about 45kg) and high maintenance.

She said, apart from the massive shits it would do, it was a lot easier than looking after her own small dog.
Take it for a walk in the morning and then it would lay around all day. She’d take it for another walk in the evening and then it would sleep through the night.

I guess that’s because they’re bred to run quick, not to have endurance. Similar animals in the wild do the same thing, that is lay around and do nothing unless they’re hungry.

Just picked up a new set of wheels (Kona hybrid) for the missus.

We are undefeated against real estate agents and now car dealers who try it on. Placed an order back in August for a petrol model as we were told it would be ~3 months delivery, the hybrid was expected to be 7+. Post sale they then lied to us a few times, they were clearly trying to break bad news about a delay to us in piecemeal fashion so that we’d suck it up and stick around (they have 30 days from estimated delivery date to deliver the keys, o/wise we can walk away from the contract) rather than being truthful and transparent.

That approach backfired spectacularly. We called out the BS and got them to refund our deposit even before that 30 day period expired, as we’d found the exact car we ordered in both petrol or hybrid available at another dealer 20 minutes down the road. We only started looking at other options because we knew these blokes were telling us porkies.

So they got nothing in the end. We spunked an extra $3K and got the hybrid we wanted all along today, 3 days after the delivery date we’d been provided for the petrol model (again, we ordered it in August but it will be lucky to have gotten here before February the way it was going). Great result.

Summer Southerly Busters.

Look, it’s been a while since I’ve gotten laid, but this is as good right now. Moving house in 40 degree heat plus humidity is fucking cooked.

Sitting on my patio in Balmain, an ice cold beer in hand, some tunes on Spitify, and this cooling wind is just an absoloute fucking treat.

One of the things that makes me love Sydney. There’s honestly no better feeling than sweating all day then just having that entirely drained away in the course of an hour.

Balmain is quite the move across Sydney for you if I’m not mistaken.

Those coastal winds definitely have a lot more impact out this way. I’m thankful for it as an inner westie too, but grew up way out west and remember it was only the big southerlys that made a difference when I was a kid.

Kinda.

With my wife leaving me. I’m moving back into my grandparents house in Balmain. There is no point paying $500 a week in rent to her parents who technically have the mortgage on our house.

It’s the same house I grew up in and they raised me in. It’s home. Balmain has always been home to me. I love this place.

Lying in bed last night hearing the storm rumble away overhead was so comforting.

Took me 30 minutes to drive to Malabar beach today. Lovely swim, Aussie burger for lunch, 35 minutes home, cold shower and colder beer.

How was the water? Always put off swimming there due to the sewage runoff pipe being more prevalent there then elsewhere nearby, mixing with the long bay meaning it has nowhere really to go.

Clear and cool.

Took the kids to the swimming baths along the southern side. They preferred that.

Despite my comment in the gear grinding thread my wife home-made a baked cheesecake that is amazing.

The replies to this tweet, the freakouts it is causing, just ridiculous. It’s good festive fun.
