Follow follow follow - the Corica thread

I do tend to agree here. I would expect that they’ll try and give him more time and would rather give a new coach a full pre-season instead of coming in mid-season. It also allows Corica to address the defensive player woes in the January transfer window by bringing someone else in, which, with the world cup break isn’t really that far away.

All our injuries are meant to be back by January aren’t they? Essentially means he’s not going to make any changes unless Wilkinson’s rehab doesn’t go to plan and even then, we already have injury cover for him. I don’t think there’s any space for a player to come in, unless Alf decides to leave.

I really don’t see old ways to be reverting to. I find this a strange and repeated assertion that we’ve churned through coaches when we havent really.

Branko and Crook are the only coaches with less than a season.

And Crook resigned. I think the only coaches that the club has prevented from seeing out their contracts are Butcher and Čulina?

Frank?

Harry Kewell is in town with Celtic. Good chance to tap him up?

Still a bit green, I think.

Good point. I guess if either Rodwell or Wilko end up perma-crooked, then the transfer window may come calling, otherwise, it’s an opportunity for Corica to demonstrate how the team can perform without injuries to key players.

Don’t think it matters what the team colours are does it?

Farina was appointed our 7th coach in just over 7 years, ending as our 7th in 9, and that’s including Larry lasting 3 full seasons in between. There was absolutely a perception we churned through them, even if they weren’t renewed more often than they were marched, and it was one of the things Wests fans gleefully saw themselves as superior until Poppa exited.

Oddly enough, I still don’t give a fuck about what WSW fans think.

We all know Corica isn’t going to do shit. Holding on to him because of some idea we churn through coaches seems kinda counter productive to me.

On average, it’s about every two years.

We also have more national level trophies than any other club in the history of Australian soccer.

Long may we churn if that gets us the biccies.

We went through this very thing when the club persisted with Larry to the bitter end of his deal. It should be obvious but who the fuck is gonna want a job where the previous guy is a club legend and been here since day dot, got runs on the board with trophies, and even HE got arsed 6 games into a new 2 year deal?

The season might well suck, we’re all kinda expecting it, but I won’t argue with them giving him the full season to turn things around.

I’ll argue, it was stupid to give him a two year deal!

Same argument as with everyone defending him, just saying he’s won trophies neglects the decline in team performance whilst winning those trophies and the accelerated decline that resulted in us not winning trophies.

To think we can’t get a coach to sign on with the biggest, winningest club in the country because we sacked an underperforming coach is … odd.

No argument there. The time for change for the reasons you outlined was 6 months ago, but the club since made their bed and backed him, and having done that they need to give him time with new signings / system (I’ve banged on numerous times we should’ve implemented this same system in January anyways, even with new signings in the bulk of the squad should be 6 months further down the road, but I digress).

Not at all a stretch to think it would reduce the top tier candidates who are in demand and have options if they think they too could get marched quickly or unfairly. Not as many of them would currently be unemployed mid-season anyways, which brings us back to the decision already made and that a change would be more likely at seasons end (with enquiries being made and discussions held over coming months should performances not improve).

Just get the women’s coach Juric to take over to the end of the season…

Quickly? This is his 5th season.

Unfairly? No results, no job. Pretty standard football philosophy.

Not talking about Corica FFS.

I don’t really think there’s anything major to look at there? I mean, if the club was to let go of Corica, it would be fairly justified. There’s definitely been a slow and steady decline, last year was poor and this year has looked similar enough, even with a major change up occurring. It would be different if they’d let him go at the beginning of last season.

If we don’t win by 3 goals tonight he should walk

I’m prepared to give him the remainder of the season, but anything short of top 6 and he’s gone.

If post-World Cup he continues to slide down the ladder and it becomes apparent that we will not qualify for the finals or are once again struggling to qualify for the Australian Cup, then he should be marched.
