Corica’s calls are sometimes frustrating for all of us (and how well would we do in gaffer-land?) but he has done a spectacularly good job with the hands dealt him. He lost Clarky and Crawley to start and then some very, very good players, like Jordi B, Adrian and Bobo. Under Corica, SFC has played our most open, stylish, entertaining and innovative football ever. That has come at the cost of shipping more goals than under Arnie’s more buttoned-down, risk-averse style.
How often can/will we or any other Australian club find an Adrian (still very near his peak and playing desperately for a World Cup squad spot) to put alongside a Ninko, Bobo and Brosque all still playing near their best? Rhyo injured himself badly before the season; how often can you pull out a Wilkshire still good enough to dominate his side of the field? How many Jordi’ Bs are there available in cap?
On paper, Siem looked like a close replacement for Adrian in terms of career status and achievements but he was crocked most of the season and shy of making physical contact the rest . ABJ on paper was also an excellent signing at RM but has shown less commitment than Adrian. WE could say similarly for Jop for Jordi.
And how do you replace a Brandon O’Neill mid-season, like for like?
We won the league this years in a canter and had our first GF victory not on penalties since Season 1. Hush up you misery gusts types.
People are complaining about this season under Corica but no one seems to remember Arnold’s second season. For a new coach, 3 trophies in 2 seasons is an achievement and while our pasts successes have certainly set him up well, success was never guaranteed.
So we’re just going to ignore that we were pretty much on track to match the record-breaking season until a three-month break after which we had virtually nothing to play for while all our players were separated from their families?
Last season you could maybe say that Corica inherited the squad and hadn’t proven himself yet. This season we were so dominant it was clear we’d win the league by about the halfway point. I’m really not sure what more Corica could’ve done. The only criticism could be that we dropped points after an unprecedented disruption to the season, but still never lost when it mattered.
The only real criticism of the team this year, is the decrease in beard numbers. I think you’ll find that the number of beards in the squad, is directly proportional to the number of goals scored on average throughout the season.
Caceres has a solid beard game and can easily be confused for Brosque, so we covered that departure. Problem is with Zullo injured, we’re left with Rhyan Grant’s pretty poor effort. Redders has stepped up though.
I’d like it for Retre to honour his Portuguese roots by going the full Artur Jorge moustache:
Does he get a flat cap with that mustache as well for the full Portuguese look?
Of course. WOuld totally suit him too.
Huh? Who’s is?
Slightly off topic but Retre was great in the Grand Final. Agree could do with some improved facial hair though
I watched Kayo highlights of our first derby win at ANZ a few days back.
Redders was baby faced and conceded 4. The beard works.
In our 2019 Semi Final against Melbourne Victory we had 6 beards (or at least attempts at beards) and 3 moustaches. We won 6-1…
I’ve seen a fair bit of that in the cesspool of Facebook
That’s two seasons displaced from our home ground, the first of those seasons with a new coach at the helm, the second with a largely rebuilt squad. and we have three trophies to show for it.
It could so easily have gone the way the Wanderers did when they were displaced. And there were some fears on here that it would.
Corica has done a superb job.
You guys are blinded by the fact that we’ve won trophies. And considering the quality of opposition in the past two seasons, I’d be disappointed if we weren’t winning the league. Perth last year have been the only decent side apart from us in the past few years.
Its amazing for us as supporters of the club to see us winning trophies. But if you look at the way we are planning its pretty underwhelming imo. Scoring less, conceding more. One dimensional counter attacks where we play ridiculously ambitious through balls which rarely come off. Or if we aren’t counter attacking, the ball movement during the attacking phase is way too slow and usually we just end up putting in crosses which our short strikers almost never get on the end of. Signing Kosta as marquee has clearly been a bit of a mistake. 4-2-2-2 is also such a crap formation and the front 4 always look so isolated and out of ideas as soon as any team presses them. To me the above criticisms are pretty fair and I don’t saying “yeah but we won the league” therefore means that Corica can’t be criticised.
I appreciate you are justifying your thoughta but honestly I think you are factually incorrect. The measure of success for Bimbi is trophies. The rest is optional.

Nothing that can’t be fixed by going to 4-2-3-1.
Actually, now that I think of it, there are very few problems in this world which can’t be improved by adopting 4-2-3-1.
The amount of trophies we’ve won is irrelevant to the standard of the football. Pretty convenient for you to say that only the trophies matter because the table and goals scored/conceded support exactly what I’m saying.
