a) keeping tight lipped as they do about all contracts internally and externally at the club
b) waiting for a minimum agreed upon time after which they terminate.
The board isn’t going to publicly shout what they’re doing behind closed doors
If we actually had some kind of football media in Australia they would have been asking the board a long time ago about Coricas future at the club.
Which they then would have said they have full confidence in Steve, which would then result in him getting the sack a month later.
But alas we have Sokkah Twitter and forums, then there the KeepUp / A Leagues app which is just a propaganda machine. Nobody asks the hard questions except for Joey Lynch and maybe someone else…
CORICA DEPARTS SYDNEY FC
Sydney FC and Isuzu-UTE A-League Men’s Head Coach Steve Corica have agreed to part ways after 19 years.
Corica departs as the longest serving Head Coach in Sydney FC history with 182 games in charge and as the club’s most decorated servant having won 13 trophies.
Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow said: “The Sydney FC Board has made the decision to move in a new direction.
“Steve is a legend of our club and has made an incredible contribution as both a player and a coach over our 19-year history.
“He is a true gentleman who has always put Sydney FC first and I would like to personally thank him for all he has done.”
Corica joined Sydney FC at the club’s inception in 2005 and progressed from a foundation player to club captain and Head Coach.
“It is very difficult to depart Sydney FC after being here for such a long time but I leave with unbelievable memories,” said Corica.
“There are so many people to thank but most of all I would like to thank all my amazing staff and players as well as the Sydney FC Members and fans.
“I could never have imagined that when I set foot into this brand new club in 2005, I would go on to spend the next 19 years of my life here. I will always look back on my time with Sydney FC with incredible fondness.”
As a player Corica made 139 appearances, scoring 31 goals and Corica led the club as Head Coach in 182 matches.
In total he won five Championships, four Premierships, two Australia Cups, the Oceania Club Championship and an A-League Youth Championship.
Assistant Coach David Zdrilic will lead the players in training today.
Holy shit. I had assumed that given he wasn’t sacked after the 4-0 derby or at the end of last season, that they were going to let his contract run out. I am stunned they’ve done it after only three games.
Whilst celebrating the cup win a few weeks ago I’d never have though Corica would be out a few weeks later.
Really sad way to end but he’s been a superb player, assistant manager and manager for us. His work in keeping the Arnie glory days going and continued trophies was some wonderful times for the club. Thanks for all the memories Bimbi.
Did say at the time when we signed Zdrillic that it seemed like we were recruiting our. East manager.
Its finally over, this has been over a year long overdue. I’m sorry Bimbi, I love him but its been clear for a while we needed to change things up. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Aus Cup run has been a false dawn. Not personal, but results are the only thing that matters.
Still on the clubs Mt Rushmore for mine.
Early rumours online is Uffie is being lined up, but like someone said above, I wouldn’t be surprised if they went straight to Zdrillic.
There is literally no doubt that he’s the biggest legend in the clubs history. Numerous titles as a player and manager and almost 20 years with the club. Just because his last years as manager wasn’t great doesn’t diminish that at all.
Yeah, club legend and must have felt more pressure after Rado got punted. Perhaps the dressing room was switching to Zdrilla, who has been assistant at some decent clubs
