I tend to think that they said Zdrillic is “taking training today” means they the club have someone else in mind for the top job.

If they were this close, they should have done it at the end of last season. That would have been a far more dignified exit for a club legend.

I mean we won a cup a few weeks ago. Feels like something changed in the weeks that followed.

Does though feel awkward for any new manager coming in though to be stuck with Corsica’s recruits and squad. Won’t expect too much

Wow. The writing has been on the wall for quite some time now, but now it’s actually happened I’m actually in a bit of shock.

Recent results have been less than acceptable. Recent being in the last 12-18 months.

However, let us focus on what an amazing stalwart, and club legend that Bimbi is.

  • 19 years at the club.
  • 106 league appearances. 23 goals
  • First A-League Asian Champions League goal scorer.
  • First A-League Finals goalscorer:
  • First A-League Grand Final goalscorer:
  • 3 titles as a player (2004 OFC Champions League, 2006 Grand Final, 2009-10 Premiership, 2010 Grand Final)
  • Sydney FC’s most successful manager (1 x Premiership, 2 x Grand Finals, 1 x Australia Cup)
  • Sydney FC’s longest serving manager.

He will always be a Sydney FC legend, hero, and fucking champion. He will always be welcome at the club, and in the stands.

He’s definitely a GOAT.

You’re a sentimental bastard, aren’t ya.

Undoubtedly so. As to what happened, we may never know.

But it must have been something big. I can’t help but feel he was struggling to keep the dressing room harmony after the poorly handled Ninkovic saga. I imagine there were some unhappy people in the team from how that was handled.

Something was working during the cup, and then suddenly it wasn’t. The two week period between us lifting the cup, and the start of the season, something big must have happened because Round 1 the team looked uninterested, unmotivated, unenergized and it’s continued.

I feel like the board would have accepted 3 losses on the trot had they been close fought losses.

I wonder if he was handed the noose to hang himself with, or whether he’s actually been sacked. The wording sounds like it’s a sacking, but it’s a little ambiguous.

Or maybe Steve decided to step down and they’re trying to figure it out.

Except the press release says “Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow said: “The Sydney FC Board has made the decision to move in a new direction” so it sounds like it wasn’t him stepping down.

Im happy with how the board played this out. They gave him the opportunity to fix things, there was some positives, especially the Australia Cup, but unfortunately our first games in the ALM showed there were no major differences between this year and last year, despite some decent recruitment.

Definitely wish him all the best and will forever see him as a Club Legend!

A necessary change. Above tactics, I felt there was something not quite right in the change room after this recent run of few games.

So he wanted the cup to complete the set? Absolute legend.

Interested to see where we go now… not that enthused by Talay - would prefer to take a punt on the Zdonk

Glad this thread is every bit as respectful as expected (forza SFCU, probably a good day to stay off the club socials). So conflicted, it kinda had to happen but we’re marching the one guy above Brosque, Tezza, Busta etc. Literally just relocated the signed #10 2007 ACL away long sleeve shirt yesterday, it will continue to take pride of place in the new wardrobe. Thanks for everything Bimbi. :blue_heart:

Genuinely shocked by the timing, thought he’d get at least one more game prior to the international break. But gonna assume Scotty & co had already decided this year would be the last, making it easier to pull the trigger early. Plus I imagine they would have discussed the current plight and concluded Corica wasn’t going to be able to turn it around. We’ve seen all the current issues before and no doubt have regressed massively since the uplift towards the end of last season and Cup run. When that period becomes the outlier they’ve really got no choice.

Sooooo, is Ufuk available?

Anyway, I LOVE Stevie and always will. I hope ultimately his legacy will be a good one. Decorated as a player, assistant coach and head coach. Even as a last gasp, we had a solid cup with him just recently. Moving into his 5th and 6th years in charge was a lot to ask. I wish him luck. And excited about a new direction for the team. :blue_heart:

Bit like Graham Arnold, I’d say.

More Don Revie than Brian Clough.

We could do with a bit of Revie, at the moment, to be honest.

Was mentioned on twitter somewhere that whisper it quietly, but he’s probably in a similar situation as Muscat at Melbourne. I hope he gets a decent chance to make a go of it overseas in a similar way. Not sure if on his last 2 seasons he can get a gig in Japan though.

Bring back Littbarski

Is the teams performance a sign of the overall decline of the club after all the various departures over the last few years rather than coricas fault?

Hmm, well let’s worry about that when we come to it.
