I’ve been thinking about this result this morning and what it means to me. It’s been amazing.
As most people know I’ve been in the Navy for a while, been at sea a lot and moved to WA.
I’ve never been able to get to a Grand Final and generally if I’m lucky able to see Sydney play once or twice a season. There was one season where I was able to watch our A-League, W-League and Y-League teams all play in Perth which was pretty special.
Many years ago I took my oldest son to his first game, it was the Champions League game at home to Urawa Reds, he was about 4 years old. He loved it and started his passion for Sydney.
This year, the planets all aligned and not only did Perth manage to win and host the Grand Final, but I was here, not going anywhere and going to be home. I hadn’t been in Perth when Sydney played here during the season.
I took all four of my sons, the oldest three last got to see Sydney play live when we smashed WSW at homebush, this was the first game for my youngest, who had also just turned 4.
We had a massive day out, catching two trains full of Perth supporters, the boys being cheeky and making little comments about Sydney winning and walked up to the stadium. We wrote our names on a car for the matildas, gave high fives and booed the Glory Gorilla thing and then we found our seats behind the cove.
The match speaks for itself, but after Reza put that penalty away I had four little boys screaming in joy and jumping around. For 5 Sydney supporters who haven’t even been able to see the team play in so long this was an amazing night.
I can’t be happier.
