That’s the thing, isn’t it. I’ve always preferred the traditional first past the post approach. But a grand final really is an awesome sceptical, and winning the thing seems so much more satisfying than winning the plate. I wouldn’t want to get rid of the finals for that reason.
There’s nothing more satisfying than winning it on the pitch on the last day, which you obviously always guarantee with the finals series. Also, with this currently very flat league, it seems to have become impossible to engage casual match-goers for anything except a Grand Final with guaranteed result on the line.
It’s the word ‘champions’ for winning that way that to me seems weird - but, hey I’ll wear that after what happened last year, and CHAMPIONS it very much is for the next 12 months at least. At least we were runner-up and not 23 points off the pace.
$11 for a 4 Pines Kolsch at hotel lobby after check-out. Outrageous.
EDIT: in all seriousness, huge thanks to those that organised us yesterday. $4 beers at the WACA were tops, as was Blasta. And massive thanks go to Shane and the club for bringing us the trophy within the hour. We must have had our hands on it before some of the playing squad. Amazing.
+1. This trip exceeded all expectations largely because of the efforts of the club and the organisers in the cove. I’d sort of hoped I’d be able to get a photo with the trophy but never serious believed I’d actually get it. And the club giving away the team’s training gear ahead of the match was a really nice gesture. I’m heading home with an away win, a photo of the ring around my neck and Siem de Jong’s training jacket. Couldn’t have asked for any better.
Id like lodge a complaint. This last week has had too many highlights. In a few months when Im feeling nostalgic for football how am I meant to decide if I watch the highlights of the 6-1 or this shoot out first?
Are we allowed to have a proper event tomorrow or is it all AFC controlled and no access to the pitch unless match day squad? Could make for some welcome guests in The Cove but…
