I’m a Gladbach fan as well, my wife grew up in that area and we go to Germany almost every year and get along to a game at Borussia Park whenever we can. Haven’t been to a Freiburg game, but I’ve been to Freiburg which a lovely area. Which part of Germany are you moving to?
Cheers for posting that, it’s super hi-res when zooming in.
And woot, seems I climbed over just enough seats to be visible towards the back of that pile. Result.
Im hoping either köln, Berlin or Hamburg. My company (ERM) has offices in münchen, Stuttgart, köln, frankfurt and hamburg so I’m still waiting to hear transfer opportunities but I have heard frankfurt and Stuttgart are pretty dull and Münich whilst very pretty is expensive and conservative - plus I hate Bayern!
When will you be over this year? Might be able to meet up for a drink and see a match. I need to find myself a nice German girl too, I think
July, so too early to meet up I guess. If it were me, I’d be moving to Köln so that it’s nice and easy to go to Borussia games!
I hadn’t even really pit köln into contention early on in my moving decision, but it’s looking more and more appealing… I just love the music scene and freedoms in Hamburg, and Berlin is Berlin. All good options, I feel like a can’t really lose.
Sorry for derailing thread, all!
Koln is meant to be a great football going experience. Classic underachieving club with absolutely mad committed support, and going back into the Bundesliga this season (which means they’ll be relegated in 12 months).
Ye, hard to have much support for them after this…
That’s exactly how I looked all Monday!
I wonder if he spewed in a bin at the airport as well?
I wasn’t at the Star on Monday night so didn’t see it live, but how good is Ninko trolling Santalab!!! And the whole team just laughing!!!
Just watched a replay back today having been deprived of wifi with which to do so on the flight back. It really was a tactical masterclass by Corica. We were super compact through the middle, depriving Castro of any space to work in, never seen him so peripheral for an entire match. That meant we surrendered space on the flanks to Franjic & Davidson, but we were able to without having to worry about Keogh as their target. I reckon we deliberately set up to say “fuck it, cross it if you must” and just backed Calver & Wilko to win everything against Ikon & Chianese. I thought we then noticeably closed those wide areas earlier once Keogh did come on.
As it turned out, their only chances came aerially. The early one narrowly wide was credited by commentators as being Ikon, but was actually Chianese. There was one from Djulbic from a corner that was going over anyways, Redders just made sure. Then the two up the far end from Castro, one of which required a good save. But if that’s the trade off from closing the areas Castro normally goes to town in, then it worked an absolute treat. I struggle to think of a Perth player who stood out beyond Davidson, Ikon was tidy but offered no cutting edge at any point, the rest were meh.
I gave my points to Redders, Milos and Calver already. Post replay I feel that’s a little harsh on Wilko and Brillante to miss out. Only fair as I’ve been critical of the latter at times to acknowledge he’s been back to beast mode the last two matches. Grant, Zullo and Branners were also excellent, but when aren’t they?
I thought Wilko was better than Calver, who was the one against whom more of those headers were won by Perth players.
Yeah I totally agree. Majority of people overall say it was a very boring dull game but I thought it was a really tactical game between the two best defences in the league. With that in mind it felt like the game where one goal would be enough.
It wasn’t, as it turned out, but I take your point.
ONE did decide it,Perfffs ONE!
I agree it wasn’t dull, it was just tightly contested with few real chances, I dont believe that either team was playing negative on purpose. If the disallowed goal had stood the contest would have opened right up, I believe the 1st goal would have led to more goals from both sides. It was the VAR that almost killed the game.
Yes, super tight game, balanced on a knife edge all the way through to the last spot kick. Indeed, that first half goal would have opened game up, as Perth would have then stepped open up their attacking intent, and opened up space all over the pitch.
Thanks to the lino, supported by the modern day genius of VAR this didn’t happen, and the game progressed like two boxers keeping their guards high, wary of throwing a punch that might open them up to a counter punch.
There was surprisingly little “bore draw” sniping from the sidelines. I think this bore (no pun intended) testament that it was 2 defenses who respected their duties in stark contrast to the usual A-League fare of gross negligence, going walkabouts, poor organisation, poor technique and poor judgement.
I would think the boring tag would have been more from people that weren’t emotionally attached to the result
