Heartle$$: Melbourne City Thread

They’ve been pretty open in saying they’re not overinvesting until the league is separate from the FFA

They were also open in trying to influence the FFA to bend the marquee / guest stint rules in their favour, and FFA said no. So of course they would prefer that outcome.

Joyce now sacked

Not sacked. End of contract and not renewed.

Didn’t they extend his contract a couple of weeks ago?
I guess it had a “Get us into the ACL for 2019/20” clause.

Kurz could be a decent shout.

Lets get an ex Citeh player in to coach against Fowler… Whats the goat up to these days?

Or they could continue to do the in thing at the moment and give former SFC Premiership & Championship winning players their first go at management. I agree that the person should have ties to Manchester City but also think that they should have a connection to Melbourne as a city.
Therefore, the ideal candidate is…

Simon Colosimo

Wouldn’t be surprised if they just bump Patty K up. I get the feeling he gets on with all the young kids and that’s what they really want in the end.

Next coach will be very interesting. Youth specialist vs coach who can challenge. At least this shows they are dissatisfied with status quo.

Selfishly want a youth coach who refuses to use GK (so they lose to us but still develop local outfield players).

Their next coach will definitely come from within CFG but I think it may be one appointment early for Kisnorbo. I think he’ll get the job in 2 years time. If they appoint from within Melbourne City I think it will more likely be Tony Vidmar.
Looking at the way they progress their coaches through the organisation though I think the 3 most likely candidates are:
Jason Wilcox - Academy Manager @ Man City
Simon Davies - Head of Academy Coaching@ Man City
Paul Harsley - U18 & 23’s coach @ Man City

Id chuck in Javier Perez, current assistant coach at New York City FC. Previously worked in Real Madrid and US development/ youth teams

City outs:
Galekovic (retired)
Delianov (off to Western United)
McGree
Harrison
De Laet
La Rocca

And also said Bouzanis and Genraeu will be back

Their best 3 players at the minute.

All on loan and all played well enough to return with raised stocks. Hopefully they give Genreau a good run

Bit of speculation of FFT that this guy might be their next manager:

Apparently it’s unofficially confirmed and he’s already visited Australia to get a feel

Confirmed now

might actually be ok…

So City have built a 5-a-side football/futsal court in Heidelberg with a massive Melbourne City logo in the centre. It’s in a park area near a basketball court and skateboard park. Pretty good idea IMO, I’m sure they’re not the first to do it, but it has to be the first in the A-League.

Imagine being a kid and playing on one of these courts on a regular basis, you’d have to think that the branding would have some influence in shaping which A League club you may support.
