Hello Boys! - The Paris 2024 Olympics thread

Thought we could do with a thread for all things Olympics from the home of the cheese eating surrender monkeys.

I haven’t cared much for the Olympics since at least 2008. Is there a good reason for me to start caring again?

All the swimmers may very well die of dysentery by the time it ends

I am a huge Olympics freak (the last Olympics coming at a time when I was unemployed was a dream come true, I literally spent 16 hours a day watching every event live on three screens) so I am very keen for this.

The time difference will make it hard to enjoy as much as I would like, but I’ll make it work.

Roy & HG will be doing a daily Olympics radio show/podcast : “People, Medals and Cheese” which will be a joy as usual.

Our athletics team is probably the best we’ve ever had.

I was so disappointed last week when a reporter was covering the state of the river Seine, they showed footage of some Frenchy going in for a dip saying he was “undeterred”.

Not a shred of humour or syllable emphasis to make the most obvious pun of all time (he was literally swimming under turds).

I’m a huge fan of the olympics… I’m hoping we get coverage of sports that Australia may not win a medal in but still of interest

I’m looking forward to the Olympics. Will pick up Stan and Stan Sports for a month to avoid the Channel 9 commentary and ads. It also sounds like they’ll be showing all the events. For those non-Australian’s I think I also saw that they’ll have 6 or 8 foreign Olympic channels, which I assume will focus on that Country’s chances, and in the case of places like Germany, will be the German language broadcast too.

Rowing should be strong this time as well

Probably the most aggravating bit for me is when they start flashing that graphic showing how we rank in the world for gold medals per capita. It’s such a small town mentality. Instead show us how some underfunded and under privellaged kid from some country you’ve never heard of has just overcome insurmountable odds to win a gold medal.

Yeah, will be interesting to see how we go. I heard recently we won 3 Diamond League Gold’s the other day, but don’t know enough about athletics to know whether that was against strong fields or weaker fields with athletes not competing before the Olympics start.

I want to like the Olympics but it pisses me off when some random drug cheat ( I’m looking at you Russia and China) comes out of nowhere and Beats 1 of the favourites. Apart from that, bring it on!

Diamond League is pretty good… Its a big earner for competitive Track and Field athletes.

Weve got 2 very good chances for Womens High Jump in Olyslager and Patterson. Torie Lewis in the 200m is one to watch, shes the current Australian 100m record holder and Paris will be her first Olympics. Also the first time in a while weve had a mens and womens 100m relay team.

You know, maybe it’s time to bin this one?

Out of the 169 most important world battles fought since 387BC, France has won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10.

Ive grown to love how different nations take such incredible pride in various sports. The South Koreans with archery, Cubans with boxing and we have a great reputation in BMX racing and freestyle.

That they made Tokyo work was great but the lack of crowds and hangover of COVID was a bizarre viewing experience. I feel (hope) Paris will be a return to form.

I watched so much that when it came to the end and I was writing my list of top moments, I could only narrow it down to a top 70.

The incredible performance from An San at Tokyo was easily one of those 70 best moments to watch.

She competed in the women’s team archery and won gold. She competed in the mixed team archery and won gold. She competed in the women’s individual archery and although she was pushed to a one-arrow shootout by Elena Osipova of ROC, won gold. She also broke a 25 year old record in the ranking round of the women’s individual archery.

A triple Olympic gold medallist at age 20. Incredible stuff.

$30 a month to watch the Olympics? (standard+sport)

And people complain about P+ at $10 a month… 3 months of A-league + whatever else they have…

I don’t want to watch Ch9 though… should i sacrifice 6 coffees for the olympics… maybe i’ll see what i’ll get out of YT first.

Please give updates on the Stan value/commentary when it all kicks off. Will be watching ALL the catch-up of it in our arvos and most likely never live.

It’s the home results that’s their problem. They go alright in the away fixtures.
