Hiroshima away 2024

I just arrived in Osaka from Tokyo and it was amazing zooming along at 280 km/h plus while eating a bento box and drinking beers.

It’s pretty cool reading all these snippets of different stories as a great little group of travelling idiots flying a sky blue flag start to converge from all parts of the country.

I’m very jelly

I’m down the road in Okayama but will get into Hiroshima Wednesday morning. Spending the Thursday in town and then hauling ass back to Tokyo on the train and flying straight to Auckland. If I see two losses in two different countries in one week I am never travelling to away games again.

Looks like a rainy morning clearing into a nice sunny afternoon on Wednesday. Should be great at the pub!

Thursday a beautiful sunny and 20-25° too. Will probably spend the morning in the Peace Park before heading back to Osaka.

I’m in Kumamoto having spent the better part of the last month bumming round Japan with my beautiful wife . Been driving around Kyushu for the last week-absolutely stunning scenery. Shinkansen into Hiroshima Wednesday morning. Can’t wait

I worked for a time in and around Okayama, very fond memories of that place.

Greetings from Himeji. Sick castle.

Last time I was here (2011) the main keep was under renovation, bucket list completed.

Trying to fit it into my trip next year - if I can convince the other travelers. Went to Osaka castle last time - amazing.

It’s pretty amazing on the outside.

Do it if you can, just seen both for the second time in the last 3 days and Himeji is still miles better. You get a much better appreciation of the entire complex and defence system (the grounds around Osaka are way bigger, sparser and lower, Himeji is a feudal masterpiece with all its layers) plus you get to wander through it pretty much as it was. Osaka has an elevator FFS (I get that they’ve tried to make it accessible but it’s far from period on the inside).

First time around I stayed a night in Himeji. Really no need for that. This time we dropped bags in lockers at Himeji station and just made a pit stop between Osaka and Hiroshima.

You won’t regret it!

The lads seem to be enjoying Hiroshima away.

The locals here are phenomenally friendly and welcoming.

Wishing I was there, so in spirit I’ve just cracked an ice cold Asahi.

(I for one welcome our monopolist Japanese brewing overlords)

In a tiny little restaurant in Nagasaki, owned by an old couple. He did all the cooking, she did all the front of house.
Food was amazing.

There was 5 or 6 of us sitting around, she walks out with an Asahi longneck for each of us, “all you aussies only Asahi, only Japanese beer Asahi”.

None of us had ordered a beer.
