I was going to say, through my kids and siblings I know multiple people who identify into some of those categories and regardless of intellectual level I think they would have zero issue answering those questions. If you don’t understand that stuff, you’re almost certainly just answering no and moving on anyway.
For all of the criticism thrown Labor’s way of late, the disinformation laws proposed could well be a winner. What more proof do you need than Elon Musk calling Australia “fascist”?
While I 100% agree, just watch the can of worms that will be opened up if Dutton becomes PM. There’ll be a whole bunch of climate change stuff etc. banned while it’s being litigated in court. As long as they clearly define what disinformation is so it can’t be weaponised by left wing or right wing nutjobs
I don’t think Dutton will win but Labor won’t have a majority.
A lot hinges on the Teal vote and whether it was a one off or not. A lot of those votes would go back to the LNP although it’s possible some disenchanted Labor voters could replace some of them.
Some swing voters would’ve given Labor a chance after nine years under the Liberals, and perhaps even the hope that some things might change for the better. I’m not sure that’s quite panned out the way they hoped. I get the feeling many of those will just go back to Liberal next time around.
We will see, but I’m not convinced it will end well for Labor.
Can’t see that many people switching away from Teal. Most teal voters did so because the Liberals were becoming way to conservative. They offered a central/right option without the religious and anti-immigration crap that was thrown in. Liberals doubling down and backing Dutton doesn’t do much for those disenfranchised voters.
It really is perplexing how they just gone further right. It’s not like the US where you can never really gauge the whole population with non-compulsory voting. Here, it tells you exactly what you need to know with almost zero guesswork apart from new generations coming in. It was obvious that Teals took seats because people didn’t want ultra-conservatives.
Isn’t this exactly what he should be doing when legislative priorities are blocked? Try to negotiate and if negotiations fail, call an election and make it clear what you want and who’s standing in the way.
It’s better than idly pissing and moaning about it, it’s putting your chips on the table and it’s what Rudd should’ve done on the CPRS in 2010.
For a party obsessed with being ‘electable’ at the expense of ever implementing even a single one of their values, calling a double dissolution seems breathtakingly cavalier given the state of polling at the moment.
Yep, what a truly grand strategy. Openly marginalise the Greens, without whom Labor won’t hold onto power in the current climate. Let’s say that tactic works. The Greens lose some seats. Who do they go to? People are pissed off with the status quo and have been for some time. There’s no guarantee at all that those lost Greens seats will go to Labor. And if it doesn’t work, well, you could well lose more seats to the Greens or, heaven forbid, to Dutton’s Coalition.
History also proves there’s close to a 50% chance of losing power in this circumstance, and IIRC only once has a double dissolution election resulted in a bigger majority for the government of the day. I really don’t see how Labor think they will come out stronger from going down this route. It is absolutely crackers, actually.
Another “homerun” by our government… Trying to water down a resolution put forward by the UN on Israel. I’m sure we can just keep on asking politely and the Israelis will say sorry and go home. It’s amazing when South Africa, of all countries, is judging Israel for war crimes and we’re defending them.
This social media ban, surely if they’re going to have a minimum age, there also needs a maximum age? Like cap all social media between 16 and 55 and then ban all internet access unless you pass a basic, “am I a dumbarse” test? Watch the right wing nutjobs lose most of the communications access
Edit: It’d also mean politicians wouldn’t be able to post either!
