Tbh I’m not sure what you’re arguing against, if anything. I don’t think they should scrap the questions, and I don’t think I said anything like that.
The classification of the UK statistic as “experimental” / “in development” sounds like almost exactly what you’re suggesting. What is unusual (possibly unprecedented) is that it was originally classified as “official” before being downgraded. So the unreliability was unexpected despite the development work that they did pre-census, and it’s something we can learn from.
Also, don’t you think our language has gotten better at communicating about gender and sexuality in the last, probably 15 years(?) - which isn’t magical, but it is quite sudden.
I can see an argument for waiting for society to have the language to discuss these things. It’s just that that time is probably right about now.
I would dare say it’s the timing and comments from Labor that rhey dont have time to pass legislation now, it would be after the election. Sort of suggesting it’s a bit of a bribe
Labor are promising to do it first thing after the election. The greens are saying it’s good policy, and that they’ll supply the numbers to pass it right now. They’re calling their bluff if it’s pork barreling or not.
So is everybody 16+ years old ok to have to set up their DigitalID so they can use social media? I’m imagining most in here will be ok with the governement controlling what they can and can’t access online.
Well I think it does a bit, actually. There are only so many sitting days until the election and I know the government already has commitments in the 24/25 budget that it has to get through: major and minor.
Putting this through, even with Greens waving it through, would knock out other stuff from the legislative queue.
So if the uni fee change won’t actually kick in until 25/26, there’s a logic to getting other stuff done first.
I’m not saying there isn’t also a political dimension to this, mind you. From both parties.
And if the government will lose control of the parliament, or even lose government, then the legislation already having passed gives it a better chance of actually happening, even if Dutton wins. So there’s also a logic to passing it now even if it won’t happen until the next budget.
And just like when the pirate site ban came in, none of the tinfoil hat bullshit actually eventuated.
These dumb fucks spout their nonsense on the most rapacious data collection and most ethics averse platforms imaginable, the irony is off the fucking charts.
I just like how they think that the Government needs this Digital ID to be able to track them meanwhile they get around using GPS, paying by card and have a drivers licence.
Seriously, if you have something to hide from the Government they already have an agency to follow you.
If the Government is tracking me I feel very sorry for the person that has to analyse my data.
