It's OK to be White and other dogwhistles - the Australian politics thread

I consider it the height of class to say fuck murdoch in a public setting with media present guaranteeing it will be shown far and wide.

Total class.

Also considering where her public story started, I don’t think that’s the greatest expression to use.

Would it? Those mafiosi have gotten away with their toxic behaviour for decades, odd slap on the wrist notwithstanding. That’s without the poisoning of the well in english speaking democracies, which they have clearly performed in a “classy” way.

And I can only guess that their tv and newspaper assets have treated her with great class and balance. But a t-shirt with rude word

Someone posted a funny satirical headline and you made it about her, specifically stating she should have some class (indicating she had minimal or none).

No one else critiqued her in this thread until you did. Perhaps you should have debated the issue, rather than having a go at her?

It’s long past time that these fuckwits were treated with the contempt their actions deserve.

Right-wing scum can be sexist, racist, despicable cunts to anyone who doesn’t lick their balls, but it’s those who object that need to ‘have some class’

Get absolutely fucked, that’s at the root of the rise of the right, the left (or what passes for it) is trying to play by rules that their opponents abandoned a decade ago.

I don’t have a problem with the shirt.

I have a problem with the setting in which she chose to wear it.
It had taken the attention away from the people who were there to receive their awards, of which, there were no Murdoch’s.

There’s a time and a place and while the time may well be now, that certainly wasn’t the place.

The people who engage in this type of commentary dont care a bit about the awards recipients.

If it wasnt a t shirt, something else would be used to stir up some clickbait hysteria. Perhaps railing at triple j /ABC for australia day dates or similar which is like a national sport for some

This isn’t Queensbury Rules.

The oligarchs have no class. Why should we?

Because we are better than them

How’s that worked out previously? Asymmetry is the only way forward against an oligarchy.

Let’s all congratulate ourselves on retaining the moral high ground while they eviscerate us and everything we stand for. The fact that nobody called out the Trumps, Farages, Johnsons, Murdochs, Morrisons and Duttons for what they are is why the US and UK are in the state they’re in and why Dutton, despite being an absolute piece of shit, is likely our next PM and already apeing Trump’s bullshit.

It’s long past time to savage them, openly.

I agree.
She still shouldn’t have worn the shirt to the PM’s award recipients dinner though, especially when she knew she would be photographed with the PM.

I’d have no problem if it was a Change the Date shirt or End Domestic Violence or similar as one is very pertinent to the day and the other is why she was there in the first place.

I really don’t know what she was trying to achieve by wearing a Fuck Murdoch shirt to an awards ceremony none of them were attending or have anything to do with.
It was an attention grabbing stunt to put the spotlight on her and had very little to do with the message displayed on the shirt.

She wore a shirt to a political event that made a statement about one of the most damaging political influences of the last half a century.

Gets us nowhere.

I dunno. I definitely got “fuck Murdoch” out of it, but some of you certainly just got that it’s her, because perhaps a mouthy chick is more of an issue than a huge malicious international organisation with the ear of some of the world’s most powerful people

It’s also a running joke on Reddit.

Lazy newspapers and tv stealing people’s images and stories from Reddit posts so people put a watermark like “fuck Murdoch” across it so it can’t be used.

So she would have gotten lots of lols from the Reddit crowd.

Using that logic, they told the Government to award her the Australian of the Year award.

It’s not a political event.
It is a dinner held by the PM to recognise the Australia Day Award winners.

I’d hardly consider Neale Daniher a political figure.

I know who’s side I’m on, the person who was told to smile and the media tried to character assassinate with pics of a 19 year old with a bong.

It’s not about taking sides, it’s about what is acceptable in a certain situation.

The message on the shirt isn’t the problem, it’s the forum in which it was displayed.

Prue MacSween is a cunt. That is correct.
If I wore a shirt with that emblazoned on it while being photographed next to the PM at an ANZAC Day ceremony then I know who the cunt is in that situation.
