It's still nil all boys! - The Park Football Thread

Played on Saturday in Rudd Park Belfield on the synthetic pitch. Geeze the pain after that was just mental. Knees are completely shot, probably the worst i’ve ever had. On top of that, decent burn on the side of my leg from a slide tackle. First game on synthetic ever and never again.

I hated it the first couple of times but most of my games this season have been on the Tempe synthetic and your body adapts. The sliding still sucks though, way more injuries from that.

A win this weekend will secure my team the league. I played my best ever game on the weekend at right back. Several good tackles, including two that won the ball and led to goals, including one that I won high up the pitch after a marauding run.

So I’ve had to go through the process of getting x-rays and MRIs done on my ankle… it’s well and truly fucked. Years of football have finally taken its toll.

Anyone have any experience with a good ankle specialist?

There is one at Macquarie Uni Hospital. Just can’t remember his name. Sorry.

My son’s Under 15s team knocked off 3rd place 4-2 this morning to leapfrog them from 4th to 3rd.
His team only had 11 players; one got sick during the first couple of minutes and only played some of the second half.

Awe-inspiring performance. My boy channelled his inner Rhyan Grant and tore up the right wildcatback position.

We get home and this afternoon he is feeling terrible, I just figure that he played a full game, in the sun (Perth “winter” morning) and was exhausted. Wife decides to RAT him and bang, positive.

Makes his performance even more impressive.

Great effort!

Speaking of park football, we have two rounds to go until finals start. We sit 4/7, a point ahead of 5th, 2 points behind 3rd, with a relatively easy game next weekend and a bye to finish things.

But, we were discussing finals, and Bathurst Football, in all their wisdom, have decided that in a 7 team division, 6 will play finals…

Daughter’s U18W team finished second in their comp, and played their major semi today (1 v 2)

Went up 1-0 in the second half before giving away a pen to finish 1-1 after 90’.

Extra time gave away another handball in the box to go down 2-1. (A draw wouldn’t have done it anyway, as they don’t go to pens, and the higher ranked team goes through if still all square after ET).

They get another shot next week to reach the GF, against the minor semi-final winner (3 v 4).

I have lost my voice.

Finished a respectable 6th out of 10 in the first season back post-ACL. Knee survived and even managed to stop pulling a hammy every other week after discovering the miracle that is Deep Heat.

We went head to head with other sides for the finals spots over recent weeks and came up short. The only bitterness is that a side that beat us and ended up jumping into 3rd were busted for playing unregistered fill-ins. An ex-colleague of mine who plays for them is a decent enough bloke, he said he was personally against it and admitted they’d been doing it since round 4, but it only came to light in round 16. We raised it club to club, then because they’re fucking cowards and subsequently denied it, through HFI. We didn’t want those 3 points and / or to scrape into finals on a bullshit technicality, just hoped that they had the stones to put their hands up and exclude themselves from finals. They do not.

Really feel for the team that finished 5th, in the end by a solitary goal on GD behind 4th, and will now miss out. Good bunch of blokes that played us off the park fair and square the other week.

I happened to be in Sydney at the right time to watch my nephew play his qualifying final yesterday.

He didn’t start but came on early as a left wildcatback despite being right footed and scored a pearler with his left.

He did a lot of good stuff with his left. I’m very proud of him. They tonked the oppo 4 or 5 to 1 and are into the GF in two weeks.

We were 5th place before the last game in the season. Managed to win it, but the team that was 4th ended up with a bye ffs. Could have scraped in if they’d lost or drawn

Proud dad moment today.

My son’s team finished 4th.
Football WA does a top 4 cup, not the finals.
Straight knockout, 1v4, 2v3.

The team that finished 1st only lost 1 game all season and dominated.
My boys team knocked them off 3-1 today, played their best game of the season.

The team that finished 2nd won the other semi and our boys have beaten them this year. It’s going to be a great game.

We got the job done last Friday night.
We finished 3rd and knocked over the team that finished 2nd in the first week of the finals (top 5 format).
The following week we knocked off the team that finished 1st which gave us a week off.
We ended up playing the team that finished 2nd in the final and rolled them 3-0.

I’ve won the league & the cup before but this is the first grand final I’ve won as a player. I was injured and didn’t play in the only other one that I’ve won.

Did your gloves arrive in time?

No. Still waiting for them…

Guess the old one’s were lucky!

Outside of Rebel and Ultra Football does anyone have recommendations for new boots?

try on brands in store then buy online

Anyone over thirty should be buying boots with a heel lift and heel support otherwise you are more susceptible to leg injuries… ASICS have some good varieties.

I tried on some ASICS for that very reason but they all felt horrible from a touch sense, and that’s part of the reason I’m not keen to buy online without trying on.

My local Rebel (Broadway) is useless when it comes to stock.

If you’re looking in normal sports stores now, your choices are going to be limited. I had to replace a pair part way through the season a couple of years ago and it was SO hard to find a suitable pair.

When you do find a pair that you like Pro Soccer Direct in the UK are really good.
That’s who I’ve got my last couple of pairs of boots through and had no issues at all.
They’re generally here within a week as well.
