Do you have a zero tolerance for drinking during work hours? May be some stupid avoidance of doubt thing.

Not really. There’s often booze avaliable at functions and stuff in-office.

I mean I would swap my morning coffee for an Irish coffee, or just casually pull out a 6-pack on my desk.

Not hard to fix though? Just get some Baileys and it’s sorted

I also did a quick google. The numbers they have are off across the board

I imagine it’s an avoidance of doubt thing for people who follow a faith that doesn’t allow drinking. It’s exceedingly unlikely that cereal would have alcohol but this presumably was done to make those people feel more comfortable taking it.

I want to work at a place that has an office breakfast bar. We get tea and coffee and maybe some biscuits

It’s pretty good. We get a selection of 3-4 cereals, bread (toast), Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays they bring in an assortment of pastries and banana breads. We’ve a coffee machine, a selection of tea’s that’d make T2 jealous, and a sparkling water tap. There was a kombucha tap as well, but that stopped being supplied a few months ago.

Once a month we get a free voucher for a free coffee from the cafe downstairs.

And don’t get me started on when the MD’s organise the Volkswurst Kombi to set up shop in our carpark and we can eat as much sausage and pretzel as we can.

that;s a normal weekday at my house

I’m in the process for two permanent jobs atm. The time lines for both of them was out of whack by a week, but the one that is in front has booked a medical for two weeks time which should bring them back into the same process time frame!

You may also want to review the new rules relating to fixed term contracts, as they may be influencing the decision making

So random question. If someone says they need something completed by the 27th, does this mean I can submit it on the 27th or is it due EOD 26th?

I would read it as they need by the end of the 27th from you.

I usually say COB for the avoidance of doubt, pretty sure that’s common practice. e.g. in the above example if I needed it back so I could do something with it on the morning of the 27th, I would have said COB 26 March.

If they say 27th then it should be inclusive of the 27th day for you to get back to them.

Great thanks for the explanation that makes me feel a lot better. I assumed the same thing but yeah they need to be clearer in their instructions. They really need to start using COB as you suggested

This is incredibly helpful. Thanks so much

If your next contract would take you over 2 years, they may be intentionally not retaining you because technically a contractor in the same role for over 2 years has the same rights as an employee (paid holidays, sick pay etc)

Does anybody else have a favourite toilet cubicle at work and get really annoyed when you need to go tor the bathroom and somebody else is using it? Or is it just me?

I used to have one in my previous job. I had my poops timed to perfection. Used to make a coffee at home, start drinking it at a certain point so that i could get into work, do my beginning bit and then go poop in some downtime. Had it planned to the minute. Now im in management so im a bit hesitant of leaving a stinker for my staff…

The glory days of having an office, as opposed to working from home, saw me have two favoured cubibles in two different toilets… one on the floor above for particularly aggressive visits and one on our floor for the more routine 10am drops.

good times

We’ve got a single stall and a single urinal (old AF building next to Hotel CBD), it’s actually horrific when the office is full. As a rule, I try to avoid shitting in toilets shared with other people.

Glad we are moving in a month.

The past few weeks, I’ve really started to hate my job so much and lost all motivation. Think that’s a sign I need to start looking for something else more seriously than I have before.

Job hunting is just such a shit process. Applied for a couple of jobs on Wednesday, took me around 4 hours to write a good cover letter/fill in the applications and then it’ll probably just be thrown out by some software.
