LIV vs The PGA Tour - The Golf Thread

A thread for all your three putts, slices, hooks and lost balls and to discuss the professional tours.

Jason Day has just completed a great comeback and got his first victory on the PGA Tour in 1,835 days. Fitting that he won on Mother’s Day after his mum passed away from Cancer last year.

Michael Block is just finished T15 in the PGA Championship.

On a course that some of the best players in the world shot 20 over par.

He is a PGA Pro that you find down at your regular golf club who qualified for the event. Banked 280k got an invite to the tour event next week and qualified for the PGA Championship next year.

And had his hole in 1 confirmed by Rory Mclroy because he thought it had bounced through the green…

Now Block comes crashing back to earth shoots +15 to miss the cut and finish dead last at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

A week is a long time in golf.

Do the other tournament offers get quietly rescinded now?

Blockie couldn’t get over the line to qualify for the US Open coming up.

He does have an invite to this weekend Canadian Open but after that its all dried up for him as far I know.

So the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV finally merge

Unbelievable

What happens to the contracts of the Liv players? Do all players now get that level of money? Are those contacts voided? Do players now get to pick which events they wanna play from any tour?
What happens to the pga new events they talked about?!
And what about Greg Norman? Wasn’t involved in the negotiation and was only notified of the deal moments before it was announced publically

Depends on the way the merger has been structured and how much power each set of players has. A fair few unknowns but can’t see the Liv players being happy to lose money

Saudi now have a hand in control of the tour, they win.

Summer of Golf starts this weekend with the Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane and then the Australian Open in Sydney next week.

Min Woo Lee wins the Australian PGA Championship by 3 shots.

Had a great day at The Australian Open yesterday.

Very accessible course to walk around. Spent the day following Adam Scott and then caught the end of Cameron Smith’s round.

Also managed to bump into Luke Brattan on the 9th hole.
