Man bites dog: weird and funny news

Corpse flower at the Botanic gardens is almost blooming

You’ve got your A, your B, your C, and your D. They’re the biggest.

I’ve based my whole life on knowing D is the biggest!

Any of the scientists or doctors on here able to explain how this works?
I’ve read the article but don’t understand the process.

Explains it a bit. But essentially co2 good for performance, o2 bad (surprisingly).

The more co2 you can hold in your blood actually increases the delivery of o2 to muscles etc which increases performance. O2 clings to the co2 molecules and is delivered to muscles and organs etc, if my memory serves me correctly,

There is a technique you can use while exercising which achieves the same thing as this monoxide thing (and fucking hurts to do while exercising). Read an interesting book late last year which covered the topic (Breath: the new science of a lost art - which was genuinely fascinating).

So they wear diving rebreathers refitted to deliver CO rather than Oxygen?

Even that article is a bit vague on how it works, basically saying that it can measure haemoglobin as a result of altitude training. The only performance enhancing aspect is speculative at best:

Additionally, the same device can also be used for carbon monoxide inhalation, which is the process of inhaling a precise amount of the poisonous gas for the purpose of performance enhancement. There is no evidence of WorldTour teams doing this, but growing research suggests that CO inhaling can significantly improve an athlete’s aerobic capacity, such as their V02 max.

At the end of the day they wouldn’t be doing it if there was no benefit. I guess they’re maximising a lack of oxygen at peak performance?

This is pretty technical. But you should be able to get the gist.

It’s just a cheat version of altitude training I’m pretty sure.

Used in conjunction with so the way I see it the UCI is trying to say it it is a form of blood doping.

I don’t disagree with them making it illegal. I just imagine if the same scientists and doctors that worked on this were working on cures for cancer then we’d be a lot further down the road to actually helping people.

If the UAE or Saudi governments wanted to cure the poor people’s diseases they could.

You tell me that super rich people don’t have their own health system?

That’s a weird correlation unless they’re eating Punxsutawney Phil after the ceremony.

I think you’ll find there’s a fair bit of links between what they do that could lead to cancer breakthroughs. One of the best and craziest advancements in AI is currently being applied to a whole load of studies on previous medicines to try and see whether they can be affective in treating other diseases that have never been considered. They essentially look at the major studies and see if there were any other decreases in diseases that weren’t studied or researched at the time.

A huge amount of scientific discovers are accidental. Gun cotton was invented because some scientist use cotton to wipe up a nitric acid spill. He then left it to dry near a fire and realised it was flammable as f*ck

It really is perplexing. Especially as the whole thing is meant to be “random” and based on the animal seeing it’s shadow. The Peta was doesn’t even link to absolutely anything. They’d be better off to suggest setting up a camera outside a borrow in the forest and screening it on video…

That’s not bad for a quadruped.

He’s now lost a $20 million contract in Japan after his stunt. It’s now being suggested that he was controlling his wife and coerced her to go through with the stunt. There’s been a bunch of stories with ex-wives revolving around mental control over their clothing. Apparently with one, he didn’t like what she was wearing at dinner, so he her stylist to come to the restaurant with racks of clothing, set up in the bathroom and get changed.
