Does buying Twitter invalidate all of his accomplishments? What’s had a greater effect on the world, the advancement of electric vehicle technology or a social media cesspit?
Just for me, and everyone has good valuable own views, I see him as kid who grew with 80/90’s tech, influenced by gaming and movies, Got his money in a very clever way opportunistically and has continued to use that money to fulfil his childhood dreams.
Many of which have a lot of good for human endurance on this planet and many beyond this planet.
Also, many that are a scurge to humankind. His playing with fire and hopes the good come to be and if not then so be it.
In a way, it’s better than those sycophants who came before him.

It’s a very good post. People are wrong to worship him as some kind of messiah or god but his work with SpaceX is inspiring and deserves credit. Is he flawed? Massively so, but aren’t we all? I think a bank balance like that would make anyone do some pretty crazy shit - and yes, including living out any number of absurd and fantastical childhood dreams.

That’s was the main line on Musk at Tesla. Then again at Space X because we needed to get off earth because earth might become unlivable. Then he said he bought twitter “to try to help humanity”.
Again his move on twitter, the events prior to his take over, and his commentary on it before & after entirely fits my perception of his character.
Edit: In any case this is not a thread for a Musk breakdown. The link was about his company trying to sue because it’s illegal not to advertise on his platform. If you want to continue a discussion on him maybe we should take it to a new thread or something.

I don’t believe I said it invalidates everything he’s done. One often doesn’t get so rich by being nice, either, so that’s not something which should be forgotten.
Twitter had a far better reputation than Facebook just before Musk took it over. Musk has long been an advocate of “free speech”, which really translates to him being able to say whatever the hell he wants without consequences. The writing was on the wall as soon as he took it over. It’s not just him doing one thing. It is a sustained effort to bring controversial characters back to his platform that align with his values.
He could have the money he has, or be poor, and he’d still be a fuckwit for doing it. Anyway, I’m simply posting a single example. There are many others and I have to go out in about five minutes, which means I’m not going to go on a link spree right this moment.

I mean surely we can celebrate Hitler’s contributions to pulling Germany out of the recession, his contributions to the automotive industry as well as his assistance to jet propulsion and thus later space flight. I mean everyone focuses on his killing of millions of Jews, Poles and Russians, plus the whole war thing. They never look at the bigger picture

I wouldn’t be fucking actively working to bring democracies down. As much as I love space programs, compared to democracy, social programs, labour laws, and everything that cunt is against, I can put it in the bin. I’d also try and avoid the racist dog whistling.
Also it needs to be remembered that he hasn’t invented or come up with any of this good shit, but he has proved incredibly adept at enabling incredibly smart people to do so…In engineering at least. When it comes to the more human or social pursuits, he has shown himself thick as pigshit, utterly inadequate, and unable to use that ability to surround himself with good people by, you know, surrounding himself with good people.
Almost every public utterance of his seems awful and those much touted higher ideals for the future of humanity seem entirely centred around the future of him and his companies.
The cunt just got himself paid a few tens of billions of dollars so that’s plenty of recognition. I don’t have to add my false admiration to it, and he certainly hasn’t earned it in recent years, even if it is pretty cool to watch those rocket engines making a landing on a platform at sea.

He has failed up his entire life, he treats people like shit and doesn’t care who he steps on to advance his power or wealth. You cannot overlook these facts to paint him in a good light simply because he has a space program.
