I don’t think Hunt will be out west for much longer either. They gave us a run in the first 15, but for the main part she and Kennedy shepherded Harder well.

We finally played to Ford’s strengths and she was absolutely brilliant.
It will be nice to actually have an outlet up top now. The only negative is Fowler goes missing in MF imo. When shes defending from the front you can tell shes told to drop in and get on the ball. Will see how she goes in the mid 3 i guess theyll play.
Media coverage this morning is abysmal.
Must be my poorly tailored content. Saw a bunch of print editions this morning where it didnt make the cut, get that might have been a bit late. Then had the misfortune to be given this. To be fair I know ABC and the guardian have been on board with coverage.
Last night I received a “Good on you, Matildas!” text message from my mum, right on the full time whistle.
(Mum lives on her own, and I don’t believe she has ever intentionally watched a game of football on the TV in her life prior to this.)
Please let’s not fuck up this national hype like Pissy-pants Bucket Boy did after the men’s effort last year.
Similar, my 80y ear old dad who has only ever watched football when he is at my house has been going to his mates house to watch all the games and calls me the next day to tell me his thoughts. He is quite the Fowler and Raso fan these days Admits he doesn’t really understand the ins and outs of the game, but honestly, his insights are usually pretty bloody good for a novice.
He also tells me every chance he gets that the womens game is much better than the mens as they don’t dive and carry on - this, I tell him, is true
This is plain hating imo. She’s been good, starting up front.
Unless you’re convinced Kerr is ready to start (and I don’t think anyone is), I don’t see why you’d change.
She wasn’t great last night at all, and her only saving grace was the assist - great awareness to know she wasn’t going to do anything else useful.
Other than that her passing was bang average, 64% - which isn’t where it needs to be for someone who is meant to be holding the ball up and playing people into space, something she wasn’t actually able to do the entire game. She was the worst offender for being dispossessed too.
I thought she was effective against Canada and decent last night - she did set up a goal. Of course she’s going to be the most dispossessed player. Shes playing as a lone striker.
But the main thing is there’s no real obvious alternative imo. You can’t go restructuring the team thats won its last two games 6-0 agg just to dump a player you don’t like. So, who you swapping in for her?
My work here is done.
Another shoutout to the CB’s, Hunt in particular was immense last night. She’s grown a lot, fair play to Tony for seeing something in a bog average Wests team and giving her the time to settle in.
Foord was devastating. I liked her and Sam being closer together in a front two, but in a way Sam’s injury and the re-jig may have been for the best. We never really saw Foord able to run at and destroy defenders (like she does every week at Arsenal) in the old (pre-Tony) front 3, that feature has now been unlocked. We weren’t ever going to do much with the planned 4-4-2 / 4-2-4 hybrid that was built around lesser players in Raso and Vine. When Sam is back I now see a proper 4-2-3-1 where the wide players can contribute instead of just being pacy workhorses.
Mini and CC were great also. We don’t play through them as often as desired, but no need to when the diagonal switches are that effective, you’re picking up second balls and avoiding cheap turnovers where they hurt the most.

71% audience share on 7 last night.
wait till the next game now as well!
5 o’clock on a Saturday…… will it be better because not a school night? Too much competition from NRL/AFL?
5 on a Saturday is going to be perfect I think.
So the 2 top shows of the year are going to Matilda’s matches. Loove it
Was she though? She wasn’t an out and out striker leading the line. She was back in midfield for 80% of the game.
Heatmap doesn’t exactly scream lone striker:
It’s actually very similar to CC’s, except she got more forward and more central on the ball:
To answer your question, we should absolutely play CC upfront next game. Problem solved
