Check out the Adeyemi goal for Dortmund vs Lille. If you love a sweetly struck daisy-cutter (think that Tiago Alcantara one vs Porto, but even better.)

The goal is pretty early in the video, but look for the replay angle at 37 seconds - just the most perfect football pie one could ever see!

They’re just squaring the ledger after historically having too many SFC legends on their books.

Can heartily recommend the Puskas in Australia film “Ange and the Boss” if it gets shown anywhere after tonight. Hilarious stuff and a tremendous nostalgia trip for that late 80s early 90s period here.

Probably wrong thread, but god you can find some random football to watch on the internet:

At the risk of breaking protocol by quoting myself, and shilling over-enthusiastically, this has 2 more sessions now in Sydney, both at Palace Norton St, 3PM Saturday and Sunday. Good trailer on the film’s site here:

Get behind films like this that tell the stories of our code (even if it’s Melbourne). It’s funny, and it’s ours.

The contrast between what a figure Puskas in in our spot and the veneration proper football fans held him in, with the down to earth elements of where he lived, trained and coached (with seemingly no complaints whatsoever, or any sense of “do you know who I am”) is fantastic.

Highlights are: how much the likes of Paul Trimboli and Micky Petersen relish the stories and humour of the situation; the rudimentary brick bench area with chalked on ultras tags from Souths hard boys of the time; characters like “Val” his Aussie friend; his liberal use of Greek sign language to communicate with Hellas fans heckling him when things were bad; his body shape, an absolute inspiration for all the 120kg Uni students out there.

Anyhow, go watch it. You don’t need to be an NSL-head to enjoy it, but those of you who remember those times must go. It’s only 77 minutes, you won’t have a bored minute.

Is it me, or are penalties just getting more and more ridiculous? Just watched Ronaldo’s penalty miss in the National League and he’s literally stopped and you could argue his momentum almost starts to go backwards. I understand that he missed, but the question is, would it have counted had it gone in? With keepers not allowed to do anything to annoy a striker, still not sure why strikers are allowed to do what they want to annoy a keeper. The concept is just ridiculous.

As I understand it (and I’m known to be wrong on many occasions), it’s the motion of the kick that is not allowed to stop.

The run-up isn’t counted, so (again, if I understand correctly) in theory the taker could moonwalk ,pirouette or whatever in their run up, as long as they strike the ball in one forward movement.

That said, I 100% agree that the run up should be subject to the same rule, and that stuttered approaches should be outlawed.

Penalties should only be allowed to be taken in the Beppe Signori style.

1. Run-Up Restrictions:

  • The kicker must not excessively delay the taking of the penalty.
  • The run-up must be one continuous motion—stopping completely after starting the run-up is not allowed.
  • Stuttering or feinting before reaching the ball is allowed, but feinting after completing the run-up (right before striking the ball) is considered an infringement.

2. Infringements & Consequences:

  • If the kicker stops completely during the run-up → The referee will award an indirect free kick to the defending team.
  • If the kicker feints after completing the run-up (right before striking the ball) → The kicker gets a yellow card, and the penalty is retaken if it was scored.
  • If the goalkeeper moves off the line early → The penalty is retaken if missed, and the goalkeeper may be cautioned if it’s repeated

Going by that, Ronaldo 100% stops when he does his little backwards step.

Penlaties are ridiculous these days. If a player can do that as a runup then keepers should be able to come off their line

Yup. I’d like to see it trialed where the keeper can move as soon as the kicker does.

As much as I’m in support of more rights for keepers, that’s a little too much the other way. Every keeper will just charge forward, if they match a 4 step run up they’ll halve the distance to goal which will significantly cut what shots are possible

Wouldn’t want a system where the keeper comes off the line. But if they require the keeper to pretty much stand still while someone is making the run-up, then strikers shouldn’t be able to stutter their runup, simple as that. I understand it’s meant to be a punishment for an infraction that gives a player a good opportunity to punish the opposition, but when you way it up, it’s 100% too much favouring the attacking team at this stage.
