That guy is the reason I hope South Melbourne remain where they are for all eternity.

So unhinged.

Yeah I’d take Mooroolbark in the A-League before SM, purely to annoy them.

I was unaware the league started

Wales was totally inconspicuous, i don’t think he will work at all in that role, and is a stop-gap waiting for Burgess.

Also i dont mind Mauk, but it looks like they really lack an AM between the lines. The 2 young midfielders, while decently impressive, need to play forward much quicker if they want to score any goals this season that just arent arsey, lucky ones.

It looks like they’ve setup assuming Max is in that role. Sanchez, 2 WBs with Diamanti roaming around and Burgess in the hole behind Worst Human Ever works but without Burgess and Risdon it was ineffectual. They are 2 bad injuries away from the spoon though.

Agreed that is a good effort. They probably wouldn’t have got too many more without Covid and the restrictions, but they exceeded my predictions.

He fills the role of being a speedster as opposed to a professional footballer.

In their second year, Western United are already showing the same lazy recruiting of most A-League clubs by not even bothering to find a better alternative in the NPL, which is surely there, particularly in one of the strongest NPL leagues in the country, if not THE strongest.

Looking forward to going for tomorrow’s game. This will complete the treble of first Sydney league game, first WSW league game, first Macarthur league game - which means that I can switch allegiances to any Sydney team and claim to have been there since day one!

I usually watch 10+ NPL Vic games a year. I’ve seen very few players that obviously stand out and could make it in the HAL (Marco Jankovic) but a lot of below HAL level players (Peter Skapetis) who look great. WU picked that lad Yuel who I thought was super, super average in the NPL.

If Bimbi employed me as an NPL Vic scout for decent players I’d get sacked after my third Marco Jankovic report. $5 adult tix and cevap FTW.

The point is that there are quality players out there all the same who don’t get an A-League chance, and at NPL level they’re not training full-time. For many players, they would improve by training full-time.

It certainly doesn’t help them that most A-League clubs generally are totally risk-adverse, which results in not only the same rubbish players getting rooted and booted by half the league, but also the unfortunate situation where more often than not the same clubs are languishing behind the required standard to seriously fight for silverware.

Ultimately, all of the nation’s young talent doesn’t just come from the academies of A-League clubs. It is negligent of A-League clubs to pretty much ignore the second tier entirely.

Marco Jankovic at Sydney FC would be good just for the fact that it would be Marc Janko with a few extra trimmings.

What’s minimum HAL wage now?

Is it worth putting at risk your fulltime career for a dream shot?

Players in the NSL era definitely knocked backed one year deals for much less than their full time jobs.

Apparently minimum wage varies according to age. It can be anything from $45k to $62.5k.

45 large ain’t a lot if you risk going behind your peers if you have a shot at some sort of high paying trade or desk job.

Even an average job plus semipro match payments is probably going to earn you more.

Didnt one of the top NPL goal scorers say a few years back he was making more and had better long term earning options combining his NPL with his work as a teacher than taking a punt on a one year minimum wage squaddie option?

Jesic wasn’t it?

In previous seasons the lower rate was for U20s, and the higher rate was for everyone 20+. I don’t know whether the vagueness of the new wording implies that anything’s changed.

If you can get the offer, $62.5k isn’t terrible compensation for chasing a dream for another year - particularly since there’s enough down-time to get some study done, and possibly overseas travel (ACL), while you’re at it. Quite possibly not enough to keep you around once you’ve come to terms with never making it big though.
