Round 17 - Sydney FC vs Melbourne City - 3/2/19

Finally we get some depth back. Rhyan and Reza should be available and maybe Van der Linden. Hopefully it will be a good last league game for the season at Jubilee.

Would you start Reza? I could see the argument for chucking him straight in.

Give him a run off the bench. Imagine it’s a big trip from Cyprus and probably needs a little time to settle in. That said don’t drop Ivanovic off the bench for him

From all reports, he hasn’t been playing much in Cyprus. 24 hours of flying and a hard pitch might not be his best introduction to the league, and given our injury count, might be a bit risky. Ivanovic is in form so I’d be leaving Reza out this week to give him a week to train and acclimatise and give Ivanovic some more minutes off the bench.

Ivanovic has to get game time after his cameo in dark city. He should be in even better form now his tennis commitments are over.

So we have Caceres, SDJ, Brosque, Calver, and Zullo all out.

Retre at LB? Or do we give King a go there? Keep Brillante at CM despite him being mostly crap, or play Retre or Grant there? Tratty should be back, so he could play RB.

Grant will start at RB, no question. If anyone replaces Brillante it will be Retre, but I don’t see it happening.

And Warland would probably start at LB. Why is Calver out? What did I miss?

Too many yellows

He’s only on four, at least according to Ultimate A-League:

Here are the Ins and Outs for Sydney

Reza GHOOCHANNEJHAD, 18.Jacob TRATT, 20.Alex CISAK (gk), 23.Rhyan GRANT, 24.Cam DEVLIN, 31.Luke IVANOVIC.

two to be omitted

Ins:
5.Jop van der LINDEN (return from injury), 14.Alex BROSQUE (return from injury), 16. Reza GHOOCHANNEJHAD (new signing), 18.Jacob TRATT (return from injury), 23.Rhyan GRANT (return from international duty),

Unavailable:
12.Trent BUHAGIAR (ACL – indefinite), 17.Anthony CACERES (calf – 3 weeks), 22.Siem DE JONG (knee – 3 weeks), 19.Chris ZUVELA (knee – indefinite).

De Jong and Caceres 3 weeks both.
So many injuries compared to previous seasons. We’re right back in the pack w.r.t. this aspect.

3 weeks to step it up then Joshy.

No Joel King basically confirms that Warland will be starting at LB for my money.

Damn in 3 weeks if all stay healthy we are going to have a killer squad to choose from. Our hopes of being competitive in the ACL is looking positive.

Devlin and Ghooch to be omitted I would dare say. Reza needs more time before playing.

Yep Warland at left back, he has been that before and did ok. Probably Jop will return and Calver on the bench

DF: Grant, Tratt, Wilko and Warland?
MF: Brillante, O’Neill; Ninko, da Silva/ivanovic
Att: Alf and Brosque

Bench: GK, Jop or Calver, Retre, Reza and Ivanovic/da Silva

Key Statistics

  • Milos Ninkovic ’s goal against Melbourne Victory was his first goal since the Cup game against Avondale in September and his first league goal since he scored against Central Coast last March. That goal also means that Ninkovic has scored against every current A-League club.
  • Sydney FC have won the last 7 games against Melbourne City. City have scored 1 goal in that time, while Sydney have scored 19.
  • Sydney FC have scored in each of their last 28 League or Finals games. This is comfortably a club record.

Note: Appearances and goals only include league games, finals, FFA Cup, OFC and AFC Champions League and Club World Cup.

I know they aren’t Victory but I’m not a fan of Victorians. I hope we give them a good thrashing

I can’t even say I hate City, I just despise their very being and what they represent.

I can’t get around Warland at left back to be honest. I’d rather have Retre

Really should be easing to a 3 or 4 nil win here
