LOL … DAMN!
LOL … DAMN!
Fuck me that was awesome!!!
Loved that. Stay fit please DeJong
If De Jong continues to play like that then we will snatch the premiers plate off Perth
Very pleased with the end to that match. De Jong and Gucci were both excellent. Ninko was good old Ninko. Good to see us get some goals and hopefully that will give the team overall some confidence.
Still a lot to work on, though. For most of the game, we still weren’t decisive enough in the final third. Maybe Corica was looking at the full 90 minutes in mind given the warm and humid conditions, and was looking to his subs to help win the game, but to me we didn’t own the game as much as we should have. Under Arnie, we would’ve won 7-0 or something. We need to be more direct when we have the option to do so.
Loved dejong’s reaction after scoring

Turns out we were just missing our best player. Should have seen that coming.
That DeJong goal was filth.
God I hope he can stay fit for more than a couple of games.
SDJ worth the contract just for that pass.
So thinking ahead should we be looking to start ALF, Ninko, SDJ and Reza or something different? Brosque shouldn’t be starting IMO, but with the ACL he is always going to start some games.
De Jong and to a lesser extent Reza changed the game. We were bang average for 75min before then. I really only remember 1 shot on goal, which was from Brosque around the 60th minute.
A big 3 points and a win next week at home to Victory might all but seal 2nd place.
It has to be our best starting front four, but it’s probably wise that there’s some rotation going on. Everyone complained how Arnie never rotated the squad, even in the ACL. I’m comfortable with the depth of the front four. We have a heap of potential bench options. Brosque, Caceres, Ivanovic, De Silva, Devlin are all capable of playing some minutes. I’m sure I’m missing a few there as well who aren’t even injured. My memory is pretty shit at 10:45pm on a Friday night.
CB is getting to be a bit of a concern though. Warland had a little bit of mobility about him before doing his ACL. If Calver goes down, I am truly worried about the prospect of Jop and Wilko together. Wilko still reads the game so well but has absolutely no pace, and neither does Jop. Quick strikers who know how to make a forward run will absolutely destroy us, as has happened earlier this season.
And as average as Zullo has been this season, especially going forward, god forbid we lose him to injury. It’s a miracle he’s been able to play pretty much every game this season without him breaking down, while others have fallen to season-ending injuries.
Really like Reza when he plays like this - keen as mustard and direct. More of that please.
Fingers crossed that Siem can be stuck together for the rest of the season.
Running at tired defences in a hot and humid environment probably helps as well, but its clear the quality is there. Ditto with De Jong, of course.
Thought Caceres takes way too long to pass the ball, especially when there’s an overlap. There was a few times that Grant was begging for the ball in open space, with Caceres holding it up that extra few seconds and then passing, losing any advantage we’d have had, the left is still working well with quick passing, the right is where we’re being let down.
Interestingly, the commentators mentioned that Zullo has the most crosses in the league, can’t find the number, but it was over the 100 mark, but he had only the fourth highest completion on the crosses at 21 or so. Would anyone have the stats from last season? Would be interesting to see how much we’ve dropped off from crosses.
Here’s the De Jong goal again. Everything about it is perfect:
2 weeks ago here - “SDJ is the worst signing ever, what a waste of money, should have sent hime home in January.”.
Home in January for rest/recovery. Back in March primed for April, perfect.
Great cameos from De Jong and Gucci, really demonstrated how much our game relies on having that extra bit of quality in attack. Really hope De Jong can play a few ACL games, he could really prove the difference.
