Round 25 - Western United vs Sydney FC - 27/04/25

Western United have dropped a couple of games on the run so we’re catching them at the best possible time. Weirdly we might still be a chance of a home final if results go our way and we somehow win the next two games.

We’ll arse our way in the finals somehow and the lizard men will be involved also to facilitate that.

It would be hilarious if we get third.

We are such a terrible team staying alive from magic moments.

Kinda wish Uffie would ditch the back 3 this week. Its too late in the season to learn a new system and we really dont have the squad for it as so much relies on having wing backs who are good at both ends of the pitch, we don’t really have that.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Amorim 3-4-2-1 ball when you’ve got the right players, but we don’t.

If Uffie is insisting on it though, maybe he should use actual CBs there? No more of this Joel King nonsense. I’d go JCP on the left, Shaw in the middle and Popovic on the right. Maybe use King and Rhyno as the wing backs, but even thats nowhere near ideal, but options are threadbare there.

If it were me, just go back to the 4-3-3. Back 4 of JCP, Shaw, Popovic and Grant. Have a screener in front, whether thats Hollman or Kamijo, whichever. Two 8’s in Caceras and Sena, a front three of Seggy, Costa with either Lolley or JK in front of them.

I saw enough in the second half against Newy to stick with it.

Is Grant2 back this week?

I thought his season was over? Did I read that wrong?

It’s funny, our boys were definitely well on top throughout the 2nd half, but the after the first 20 minutes it looked like it could have ended 5 nil. Not the first time this season, I remember the Jeonbuk game being 2 nil down at half time, feeling extremely pessimistic about Sydney’s performance. But they won!

When the tactics work, they look great, but it seems like there’s always a 20-30 minute period where opposition teams are almost scoring at will. I don’t think it’s individual errors, the team seems to all collapse together.

So we know 1pt will probably do it.

Which probably means we need to score at least 3 goals to hold out for the draw

Joel King looking like he’s been caught out of position yet again.

Ashley Cole

Hope they brought their own bottled water, just as a precaution.

Super awkward for them that they all turned up in the same outfit.

Can confirm that Klimala hasn’t travelled with the team this weekend.

Even on the street they put him out on the right. Madness.

On a more serious note, would it not make more sense to move Grant back into the middle, move King to LWB where he’s far more comfortable, and switch Lolley to RWB so that going forward at least he can play a more natural game?

Any formation where Lolley is a wing back is such a waste of his talents that we shouldn’t even be considering it.

It’s an admission of defeat that we can no longer move the ball to him high, wide and early enough for him to run at blokes and do damage.
