Round 3 - Sydney FC vs CCM - 22/01/21

tbh i am not even going to bother reading the comments in this thread because i assume there is talk of us either folding the club or at least ‘season over’…after THREE GAMES. hope i’m wrong but can’t stand reading that sort of negativity.

we were slightly off the pace but if it weren’t for a millimetre offside we would have been up and i think that changes the game, we got lucky on a lot of those types of situations last season.

also the goals we conceded were an OG and a lucky deflection.

bobo coming in (for Kosta hopefully), Zullo, mgcowan, Hof/ABJ starting…may not be as easy as last season but we will be up there.

That’s the sort of attitude that gives you Northern Spirit. Nobody wants to support the Northern Spirit.

We’ll go riding on the horses, yeah, yeah.

You guys were gassed by the middle of the second half You used to be the fittest team in the league. What has happened?

It’s probably the price of keeping the rest of the team together on relatively unaffected salaries. Understandably, we’ll probably never know the true story of all that, but it would seem to make sense to me.

Asian Champions League.

Wow thanks for explaining what that is for me. You are so smart and I never knew that

Im now going to go through some old posts of mine. The problems have been around for a while, most have just have refused to admit they existed in my opinion.

Because being a dick about it isn’t going to put you in favour with many people here. I know, because when I first came on the forum I learned that very quickly!

I’m going to put more thoughts into the squad speculation thread. The game is over and we have to move on from it. Not much point debating too much in this thread.

dude…we won the double last year and those were the few games the entire season that we lost. if that’s your level of optimism when we win a double with ease i am fearful for you when we go back to being a mid-table team.

So wait, your prophesied doom before and in the early rounds of a season where we won the double, and were on track to set the all-time points-per-game league record (and not far off beating our previous 2016-17 record despite the shorter season) before COVID hit - despite losing two first XI players (Zullo to recurring injury, O’Neill to Korae)?

Real living Nostradamus here!!

Lol, I thought we were only going to see this nonsense after we lost TWO games.

We’ve been shit hot for 5 of the last 6 seasons despite teams employing the exact same tactics against us. It’s not revolutionary to defend by reducing space but somehow we’ve always found more room in the trophy cabinet.

I never hypothesised doom and gloom. I was just making an observation about some weaknesses in the way we attack. I never said we were a terrible team. And now that we have lost our best striker, the flaws in the system are even more obvious.

The issue isn’t the observations you made, it’s the complete absence of perspective - and then berating others for not sharing in your ignorance.

I mean, no shit. Every team has weaknesses. Every formation comes with trade-offs. Every player - PARTICULARLY in a salary-capped league - has their weaknesses and liabilities.

Getting upset that people didn’t wallow in them with you, particularly when they were so overwhelmed at virtually unparalleled level by the strengths of the team and its performances for most of last season, is simply absurd.

Some goo specialists here. Its boring.

On a positive note:

  1. A night at the football on a balmy summer Friday
  2. 4 pines cans at Jubilee
  3. Joe’s Kitchen burrata, prosciutto and cherry tomato pizza
  4. Conspiracy shirt had its first game day (and was well received)
  5. TIFO

The only reason I replied in that manner initially was because I didn’t really need a patronising explanation/picture of some well known cognitive biases. Like if you want to make that point just state the biases you think someones suffering from.

I also think its fair to be critical of the teams tactics even if we are performing well, that not a lack of perspective thats just analysing SFC tactics on a SFC forum. You’re acting like I was only being negative all through that period of success and expecting everyone else to be negative too. Which again is untrue. I was happy with the success (again look at my posts) but I also thought there were tactical flaws which weren’t being addressed and which are coming back to bite us. Basically everything you’ve said is a straw-man.

I’ve got Jimmy H on block, but considering the responses, it’s pretty clear he’s written something completely fucking stupid, which is absolutely no surprise…

Yep, there was Balter in the main grand stand and it was the day when I decided to drive to the game. :frowning:

I just wanna point out that the Mariners already have half of last seasons points total, and 3/4’s of that from the year before, after 4 games.

Over the past four seasons there were 12 items of silverware on offer and we won seven of them… in a salary capped league. Things can always be done better, but we did it better than the other teams.

I think we just under estimated the Mariners. The only difference I saw in the two teams is the hunger and desire to win a ball, defend, get on the end of crosses and get stuck in.

The Mariners grew in confidence as the game wore on and our finishing is an obvious issue. But we have Bobo to come in and hopefully relieve the pressure valve off KB/TB so it’s not like we’re totally stranded without a solution available.

Yes we have some players not up to it but so does every other side. We had an off night but this time no Alfie to save some face.

We move on, she’ll be right. It could be worse and we could be all Jets fans at the moment.
