Round of 16: Argentina vs Australia - 4/12/2022

For Sydney FC, its next weekend against Melbourne CFG. I thought the break went for longer.

We lost because we didn’t play Langerak etc

I don’t think we were anywhere near our best either. We gave the ball away ALOT and Ryan gave them the second goal. Even the first goal he probably should have done better. On another day you never know

I thought we did ever so well.

Not a meek performance. Got out of the group and had a go. Proud of them.

Messi’s face after Martinez missed that one-on-one with Ryan was priceless.

Yup it’s gonna be one to dwell on the what ifs for a bit

What if Ryan got rid of it in the first touch?
What if Behich finished off that run with a goal?
What if Kuol score that?

What if Martinez could shoot hahaha

What if Behich doesn’t give away such a silly foul because of the dumb fire behind the eyes after he squared up to Messi ?

Argentina were obviously better but we had genuine moments and never looked like we shouldn’t have been there. A great achievement from all.

They were very very beatable today. Equal parts proud and gutted.

That hurts, and it will for some time.

Am inch higher/lower and that kuol shot goes in

Yeah makes it more gutting than a 3-0 loss

I’m not going to get into the what-if-ism. Let’s not spoil what has been an awesome week or so.

I’m more interested in thinking about who is potentially earning a big move on the back of the last three games. Souttar, Behich and Goodwin can absolutely move up as they have all been excellent. I could see Baccus also earning a bigger move in the European summer. Maybe Rowles, as well?

Souttar is surely in the prem by end January. Baccus could also get one.

Goodwin and Behich are probably too old for a big move.

Wonder how much the error will hurt Ryan’s next move

WTF is the latest comments on twitter being majority Bangladeshi’s sucking Argie cock?

We put in a great effort… can’t complain. A couple of lapses in concentration cost us dearly, but we were not disgraced in the way we were against France. Argies were definitely rattled at the end. Can be proud of the performance

I mean, in Iran, in Abadan near the Persian Gulf, there’s a club called Sanat Naft (Petroleum Industry) who wears a kit based off Brazil’s and the local often say “Abadan is Brazil”. 🤷🏽

But, yes, I’ve always found the religious support of national teams by people in no way connected to said nation strange, but whatever. It’s when they try to banter with people just supporting their national team that pisses me off, particularly if they actually are from the place whose national team they’re mocking. Like, you’re making fun of me because “you” beat Australia? You’re Australian, George, not Argentino.
