A player’s lifelong career ambition fulfilled.
Cumdog was probably quite pleased to meet Messi too.

Is it possible to have a moment in this sport in this country without mentioning Statler and Waldorf?
Behich being held and then pushed over the goal line after his first big dribble should have been a penalty. So surprised the commentators didn’t mention it. Had it happened eg to a team from Latin America or West Asia, 6 or so players would have immediately mobbed the ref demanding a penalty. Are we too sporting?
Degenek’s yellow also very dubious. Overall, we almost battered them into submission the last 15 minutes. They looked more panicky and spent than us (a bit like a typical Sydney FC side holding onto a one goal lead). Italian mate in Milan texted me straight after last two matches to congratulate on having a team putting on such strong performances. So proud of the boys: best performance since our 1974 pathbreakers and really suggests again that our golden generation of 2006 underperformed relative to the sum of their individual strengths.
My main disappointment - no complaints are possible after all this - is that we tried to get that second goal by incessantly booting it long to heads - where we were just not winning any useful ball - rather than playing out on the ground to find e.g. Kuol. I think Kuol would have caused them all sorts of panic. Maybe if Hrustic had been sharper that might have helped.
Too little love around for Behich and Mooy. Both outperformed their vastly bigger-money opponents across the group round and last 16. How Behich can pull out those dribbling runs after doing so much chasing back and defending is beyond me. Can’t see why he won’t be there in 4 years time, Danni Alves style!
This was posted on the Mariner’s forum a little while ago.
I thought people here may like it.
"Bumped into Alou at Coogee Pavilion this arvo and I asked him what he thought of Garang’s last ditch effort, to which he replied: “He had one job, stick it in the net the dickhead!”
I laughed until I nearly wet myself, brotherly love is a wonderful thing eh? Face with tears of joy
Storm and Steeley were here too with McArthyyyyyy and showed us the boys’ post game pics with Messi, that’s an experience money can’t buy for sure. They apparently asked Leo if he fancied a swansong at Gosford"
Clapper hats, twice cooked biscuits, Arnie apology forms, strange Kewell noises…we were having so much fun and then you had to go and ruin it.
As Ali G would say. Respect to Arnie and the whole team.
They carried the can for over 20 years, maybe it’s time for someone else to take over. It’s cool when the mainstream sees what they were on about. The I told you so bit is annoying though, no need to gloat.
They were both in positions to direct clubs forward. They quit.
Then sat on the sidelines and whinged about it.
Agree I didn’t like when they were promoting a new a league club in sth Sydney - a Trojan horse for developers.
My goodness.
That was a hell of a ride.
Let’s do it again!
Just a shame some of those passes weren’t big arsed hoofs into row Z
Id love to see a similar graph for Redders. Perhaps with one of those 3D overlays they use for cricket that shows how far something has been smashed over the fence on the full
A-League really missed a trick not having one for crosses circa 2007.
