I think this is the spirit of the disagreement here.
If you morally object to something, you’re allowed not to do it but you’re not allowed to stop someone else from doing it. That’s the free market / capitalist attitude.
Whereas the union movement has a class conscoius attitude. Biggest thing of all is, never cross a picket line. That’s why it’s such a big deal when Billy Elliot’s dad decides to cross the picket line to fund his sons dream, when he’s a union man himself. It’s anathema.
Tbh, I’m not that heavily invested, so don’t want to get bogged down. I think that idea of not crossing picket lines makes absolute sense for work condition related issues. Seems a bit of a stretch for something completely unrelated imo. Guess you could make a tenuous link, or say that any organisation may have an opportunity to advocate for greater societal good outside of their direct role.
I’ll leave it on safe ground, and summarise that we can all find agreement in opposing the AFL.
And after they openly admitted it was their own fuckup. The court is almost certain to award costs against them if they try to go ahead with this garbage
In a development that should surprise no one, the NSW Libs have backed away from running the losingest case ever:
“The NSW Liberal Party received advice from senior counsel in relation to the irregularities in the process for nomination of local government candidates conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission,” the party said, in a statement.
“Having given consideration to that advice the division will not be taking any legal proceedings.”
Yeah, they called their bluff and now have to slink away with tails between their legs again! Who advises this mob? Very embarrassing and surely now someone gets the sack
