Squad speculation thread 2020/21

Everyone complaining about corica and his rigid structure should remember that he learnt that straight from Arnold.
You could say that corica has done a bit better with a slightly less skilled squad.

Hardly surprising that a lot of players are off contract considering we know neither how long the next contract is supposed to run (are we shifting further toward winter or closer to summer) nor how much they can offer (how much cap there will be after the new TV deal).

I can’t imagine that a lot of players who were forced to accept a 30% pay cut are super eager to sign long term deals at the moment, and it wouldn’t surprise me if many of the players were previously on longer deals demanded a shortened contract in exchange for the wage cut (which might explain Macarthur).

All part of why i was shocked that they persisted with the cap through this period.

I’m pretty sure we complains about GA’s rigidity.

We just had better/ more game-breaking options off the bench really.

Pfft, obviously fake. The only thing less likely than ALF coming back to Sydney is a person who wants a PS5 being able to buy one.

I’ve loved the redders era but wouldn’t hesitate to move him on in favour of our greatest keeper ever.

Sadly think hes nailed on for Wanderers. Im sure theyd take an update on a young keeper. Or Victory dont have great keeper stocks either

They can’t have anything left after their later additions.

I love Redders but I LOVE Vuka

I generally don’t mind the salary cap and distribution of talent but also I hate seeing players returning having to go to other clubs. I really hope we can find a way.

Like I get the sentiment but similarly dumping such a great servant to the club in Redders after a few bad games to bring in a former favourite is a bit hypocritical. As much as I love what Vuka did, Redders deserves loyalty after everything hes achieved for us

It’s what four blunders directly resulting in goals out of eleven games? It’s a bit past ā€œa few bad gamesā€ - with no points-earning blinders to balance it out, this has probably been to date the worst goalkeeping season in Sydney FC history.

Hes played over 100 games for us and only recently made a bunch of errors. Give the man the respect he deserves rather than weighting the couple of errors this season more than everything hes done before that

Yet we’ve still conceded the least goals of any teams in the comp this year. If this is the worst it has ever been, I think I can take it.

So had Vedran, winning a Player of the Season along the way, when we brought Vuka in the first time. Should we have not done that either?

I don’t harbour any resentment, and it’s not like I’m demanding that we tear up his contract, but if the opportunity is there some competition at #1 is definitely welcome.

Vuka is 36 in a week; if he can bail us out now while Redmayne’s head isn’t in the right place, stick around for a season and then move into a coaching role when Redmayne reclaims his spot then it’s wins all round.

To me, it’s not even ā€œbad gamesā€. It’s single mistakes in games where he’s conceded one goal, usually early, then cleaned it up. Some people are saying four. I remember 3. There was Wanderers where the ball was knocked out of his grip, Brisbane away, and Newcastle. Not sure what the fourth was. Three isolated mistakes in 11 games, still the least conceded, and we’re ready to dump him because Vuka is coming back to Australia? Ridiculous. To the people comparing Redders to Vedran, Vuka came in at the beginning of a season. He didn’t come in mid-season and unceremoniously kick out the most recent GK of the Season who directly won us a GF less than two years prior.

In any case, I hate when players who went overseas from Sydney FC come back and there’s either speculation about them pushing out established players or going to a rival. I hate it.

Redders deserves a bit more respect than punting him mid-season like this over a few mistakes. He’s been immense since becoming our #1, he’ll ride out this rough spot and get back to his best in no time.

It may harsh to say but what if Redders has peaked and he’ll revert to the keeper we all feared he was when we signed him (Let’s be honest while we were happy to be read of our former player of the year, we were hardly cock-a-hoop to get redmayne)
