Squad speculation thread 2020/21

Some school of thought is that Redders’ head isn’t in the right place since his wife had the baby…so let’s bring Vuka back home , he’s on the way back to Oz cos his wife’s having a baby.

The assist for Maclaren’s opener.

Its very different signing a new player at the start of the season to provide competition and that player taking over to us bringing in Vuka and probably having to terminate Redders contract to fit Vuka in.

Also worth noting he doesnt sound like hes confirmed a move back to the A-League. Just coming back to spend time at home with his wife

Just thinking - with the decision seemingly being fairly sudden, i hope all is ok with his wife’s pregnancy

You’d think he would be targeting Asia purely for financial reasons at this point in his career. One of the Gulf leagues like Brad Jones maybe.

Cap wise Im not sure who has space at this stage of the season after cuts at the start.

Hopefully not. After what hes been through that would be horrible. I read it more as a “Im not playing and I know youre not offering me a new contract could you give me an early release so I can help my wife with her pregnancy”

It could well be that it just sucks to be on the other side of the planet from your family and child on the way, especially in a time of unprecedented global insecurity. Being at home close to family and friends is probably a much more comfortable spot to be in for all concerned. Hopefully that is the main factor.

Are you sure there’s a school of thought? It’s not just nothing? I mean he’s more than likely facing sleepless night, after sleepless night with a newborn…

His first howler this year was the day before his wife gave birth and he insisted he was right to play.

There appears to be correlation but none of us are in a position to determine causation.

Redders has been huge for us and has proved us all wrong as to his capability.

He’s got points in the bank.

At least there’s not one common weakness, e.g. flapping at every high ball. He’s had one poor parry, one dropped ball, laid one egg and made one shit pass. That’s the set Redders, time to get back to beast mode son.

There’s no point speculating about his private life. Whilst there is a correlation between his form and the birth of his child if there was any actual issue it’s not really for us to guess unless he tells us. If not I don’t think it’s fair to give it too much weight. Correlation doesn’t mean causation.

We’re also weighting his errors this season far greater than the 100+ games of great service he’s given the club. I’m sure he’s working harder than ever to stamp out the errors and it’s best to back and support him

Reading too much into it. Genk manager has publicly said he will be going with the current, younger goalkeeper as the number 1 shot stopper, Vuka would currently walk into any A-league team and would more than likely have some interest from clubs in Europe. I’d say he’s coming back to get away from Covid and have a break.

The contract has not been terminated, as a show of good faith and to thank him, the club is continuing to pay his salary (quote from the man himself). With the league pretty much done, they don’t lose much if he’s not starting.

Such as bugger that he got that big injury at the start of last season and missed the Champions League Campaign.

That would mean that he is not signing with anyone for the remainder of this season then.

The remainder of the season is like 2 months. I’m guessing he’ll just chill out and do the family thing, and come train with us or another A League club before looking for a proper deal for the new season.

Importantly not signing with any A-League rival, which is really the biggest priority any time someone who’s previously left us for OS becomes available.

I think that goes without saying.

Going off this (which may be out of date), and knowing our recent recruitment style, players we should be considering include: Wenzell-Halls, Urena, D’Agostino, Davila, Hemed, Muller (for the lols) and Calver. And thats ignoring Burgess whos rumoured to have signed already.

This is a huge off-season for us in my opinion. If we get the signings right we can continue to challenge for the title for years to come. If we don’t make the right signings wouldn’t be surprised if we have a few years of mediocrity.

ABJ $$$s > marquee foreign striker. Kosta + 1 year older Trent and Bernie as backups works.

Lock in Caceres and Burgess for the Ninko and ABJ spots and give Ninko some rest.

Job done. Alfie replacement is the key - easier said than done but we haven’t a dud signing for a very long time.
