Squad Speculation Thread 2021/22

I recall it being brought up at the start of the season. Corica shot it down pretty quickly and it doesn’t seem to have been raised since.

Joel King off to Europe after these Socceroos fixtures according to club email. No indication of where yet, or transfer fee. Shame we didn’t have him contracted - it’ll likely be fuck-all (low six-figures and a future %-age probably).

Damn, out of nowhere we just saw the last of him. Such a fixture at left back for the past few seasons then smoke bombed. Big chance for O’Toole to step up, and honestly O’Toole has not been bad when featured and can cross a ball bloody well. All the best to King.

That’s disappointing to lose him but all the best for his career I suppose.

Sydney FC’s newly capped Socceroos star Joel King has completed an epic few days by completing a move to Danish Superliga club Odense BK for a six figure transfer fee.

The 21-year-old Sky Blues Academy graduate made his Socceroos debut on Thursday against Vietnam and will move to Denmark following Australia’s World Cup qualifier against Oman next week.

Best of luck, Joel.

Huge loss but all the best to him hope he cracks on and does well. Time to bring Gersbach back

How many fit left backs do we have now?

Well that escalated quickly.

Gutted to lose him, looked at the OP yesterday and he stood out as a huge risk being off-contract having just been capped. Obvs can’t be unhappy for the lad and makes sense to get something for him now rather than lose him on a free in July.

With 5 rounds to go of the main league stage, it seems unlikely that the OB will avoid the relegation half of the table (6 points behind 6th), though hopefully they’re far enough ahead (9 and 10 points) of the bottom-two to avoid actual relegation.

Funnily enough, their current LB - Jörgen Skjelvik - was the LB that Gersbach was signed to replace (well, Skjelvik also shifted to CB sometimes) at Rosenborg 6 years ago. He also played alongside (at CB) and subsequently replaced (at LB) Ashley Cole at LA Galaxy. He’s also contracted for another year according to transfermarkt.

We are looking forward to having him in Odense BK. Is he any good?

Big talent. In past seasons he’s been solid defensively but not the best in attack but this season he’s made great progress in his attacking game. Definite talent so hope he gets good minutes and does well

Thanks. He seems not too tall, is that a problem in his defence?

Yeah you’re getting a good player there. He has strong defensive abilities. A couple of years ago he had some work to do on his game (his crossing and his positioning in defence) but he’s definitely improved both those things.

Do you think he’s likely to get first team minutes with you guys?

No, it hasn’t been an issue for us. He’s quite strong so he can still compete in the air.

Yes, I hope so. If he is fit and agressive in defending and attacking, he will play. Right now we have a left back from Norway, he is good in attacking but poor in defending.

Another OB-supporter here. He should have all chances to get playing time. Skjelvik (whom someone mentioned earlier in the thread) has been rather dreadful this season but has had no real competition in the squad. He’s also somewhat injury prone.
