Our Melbourne ops manager moved areas so I promoted someone internally. She told some of her staff working from home that we understand that they’re only 50% productive. Had to have a conversation with her about telling her staff not to work hard ffs…
I find people sometimes work too hard.
You have to remind them that in the office you take time to talk to people about things, discussions, “water cool talks” etc
At home they think if they leave their computer they are being dodgy.
It’s not even about working more when you’re WFH. Previously our team had our own space and each of us had our own desks. That’s all changing and we will not have to use a desk booking system and compete with the other staff for an area. No guarantee that we’d be in the same area or near each other. Having to find out where each other is if we do want to ask questions etc. What’s the point in going to an office if we cant co-locate and work that way. We might as well be at home.
I was never overly keen on working from home. I liked to keep work separate from my home world. This experience has definitely won me over however. I see no point in going back to the office as a default.
The thing that kills me as well is working all day at my computer, logging off at 4, hanging out with the kids, dinner etc then sitting back down at the computer to study for a couple of hours then bed.
