Massive explosion rocked Whalan (Mt Druitt) today, levelled a bunch of townhouses.
Drug lab or gas explosion.
Saw a pic of the back of the block - half of the building is obliterated.
Crazy. I hope everyone is alright.

I always remember being told probably 20 years ago that Whalan is not actually a real place, it’s just a place that people from Mt Druitt who don’t want to admit they are from Mt Druitt say they are from.

100% the other way. Whalen is the real Mt Druitt (and Tregear, Blackett, Bidwell)

My biggest memory of that area was that blokes who were around 16-24 used to dress in all red and or blue to represent their area like the Bloods and Crips in California.
That has all changed now with the kids watching the UK Yardie scene.

Meth is a hell of a drug.
I used to visit Whalan regularly for work. Proper shithole. Probably a meth lab explosion. It wasn’t the worst place though, Tregear up the road took that honour.
