Streets of our town - the Sydney thread

And the Melbourne trolls, can’t forget them…

I remember more how a drunk Cadd just banned BHV one night for being a Victory supporter :joy: :joy:

I didn’t want to believe it.

Every time I go past the empty shop front now a small part of me dies. :frowning:

Did you see the dashcam video of the SUV wanker careening through the traffic before going head-on into oncoming traffic? Either they had a medical emergency or they’re a fucking dangerously stupid eejit.

Police have been told the Kluger’s owner was changing a tyre in the city when a man approached him to speak about the car.

It will be alleged a scuffle broke out before the man stole the four-wheel drive and drove it northbound over the bridge.

Video in here

This one is a hell of a shot.

How is no one dead from a head on where one one car is clearly speeding so maybe 90k with the other traffic even if it was only going 55k, that’s a closing speed of 145k. Crash tests are done at 50k (closing at 100k for frontal offset) so this is quite a lot more energy than that.

Don’t get me wrong I’m glad no one died… but how

Maybe they hit their brakes last minute i guess

Particularly the poor bastard in the van. Those things have no space for crumpling!

Cars are a lot safer these days, although the guy in the van is super lucky.

What’s the train situation like currently for everyone?

I look at Tripview and every service from where I am into the city is still cancelled bar about one every hour.

That’s 10+ services cancelled between every one running. Certainly hoping the frequency is even slightly improved over the next few days as I really need to be able to get into the city Thur and Fri.

You can safely ignore all apps for the time being, they’re not keeping up. Check the twitter account for the relevant line and it should state how frequently the shuttle services are running.

Getting home last night was fucked, the main boards at Redfern all showed something different to the indicator boards on the platforms, and they were different still to the actual trains turning up. Had to do a mad dash across platforms only because I was paying attention to what was on the train itself above the driver.

Any chance we could start sniffing around for a new sponsor?

Happy 90th birthday, Sydney Harbour Bridge.

This is a brilliant episode of the Conversations podcast about Lennie Gwyther, the boy who rode his horse from rural Victoria all the way to the Harbour Bridge to be there on opening day.

They’re having a big celebration in Moruya this weekend as that’s where the granite for the pylons came from. They’re even resurrecting their Mardi Gras parade for the event.

Always used to love scrambling around on the granite breakwaters down at Moruya on holidays as a youth.

Great to see the cultural festivals coming back.

Cabramatta Moon Festival in September and Norton Street Festa in October should absolutely go off, hopefully.
