Streets of our town - the Sydney thread

Sad that the headline isn’t that a school spent $39M on a new building… because to me, that is the outrageous thing.

Yep. Ridiculous.

No private schools should get govt funding.

I mean that or a school bought a building without checking whats next door? It feels wierd saying it, but you just know theyll close the brothel down now, after the fact

Sydney Grammar is around the corner from Oxford St, so there’s a very good chance of brothels nearby regardless!

Whatever mate. That building will produce better educational outcomes. No wait, it’ll ensure more well rounded young adults better able to contribute to society. No wait, it’ll facilitate students better able to contribute in other ways, like sports, or the arts, or a trade. No wait, it’ll allow their dads, also old boys, to talk to other private school boys about how good their school was and how attending made them better blokes. Got there in the end… A great use of taxpayer money.

As an artistic young fellow I altered literally dozens of those stickers on trains back in the day to say that.

Also an EBA has been finalised with the train unions.

NSW Trains Back on Track After Securing Landmark Pay Deal

And for some reason people are getting a couple of days free train travel at the end of the month.

Thanks to those who recommended Paul’s Famous Hamburgers. I was able to partake today with a works burger, chips and pineapple crush.

At 11:45am there was already a long line but they took your order in the line. The line moved quick as there were plenty of staff and my order was ready when I got to the front of the line. Wait in line was ten minutes which was pretty efficient.

Burger was old school style and tasty. Excellent integrity from beginning to end. The chips were outstanding and the famous pineapple crush a bit bland.

This is where I am heading down a controversial path: I feel burgers have evolved now in taste and quality. Whilst this is the best old school burger I have had in a long time I believe I could name a least half a dozen places that make better tasting burgers, and I don’t eat them that much.

When you say ā€œold schoolā€ was:
The bun traditional and toasted on the inside only, which was then buttered?
The beef patty a ball of mince flattened on the hotplate?
The salad, a combination of iceberg lettuce, tomato and beetroot?
The sauce tomato or barbecue?
Cheese, egg, bacon and pineapple offered as options?

All that.

Tomato sauce, beetroot optional which I had. Works had cheese, egg, bacon and pineapple.

Raw onion in the salad with iceberg and tomato.
