Sydney FC commercial arrangements and sponsorship

me and my twin brother both worked there… me as a bartender and he as a croupier.

man the shit i saw go down there… still…somehow managed to avoid lockout rules

“live music and football is violent”… “nothing bad ever happened at star city”
/sarcasm.

:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

That being said saints Leagues club was little better… i used to do the pokie payouts… the amount of times i saw dudes put in $1,000 cash and hit collect without even hitting the spin button. Kept me gainfully employed but dodgy as fuck… perfect way to launder money… when not loan sharking or selling drugs.

My wife once interviewed for The Ivy as a bartender when she was younger. They only took girls and the girls were told to “show their moves” to Hemmes and a few associates, while they were sitting around a giant table (thankfully the wife walked out).

Holly molly… good on her!!!

I heard some horror stories about The Ivy when I worked in Hospo.

Only been there once, and that was enough. Can’t stand any Hemmes venue to be honest.

I worked in a company who did a lot of business with Hemmes about 15 years ago…if there was any money missing from a balance or if there was a robbery they used to get their own "in house security " onto staff before cops were involved… Very very improper…

“Roy Morgan’s research found Sydney FC to be the A-Leagues most popular club with 640,000 Australians aged over 14 supporting the Sky Blues.”

Shouldn’t be too hard to bring in some $$$$ then!

I’m thinking a lot of casual fans, like with me and the Swans. Like, as far as AFL goes I like them well enough, but I’m not a big AFL person in general.

How do we collectively feel about walking around with a jersey promoting this mob?

I feel that as a forum we have been against the Star sponsorship for a long time.

I am very happy that I have the puma shirt without a sponsor on it

I mean it’s a Casino. What on earth were you expecting? Surely you’ve seen enough Hollywood movies to understand casinos are just criminal fronts pretending to be ‘entertainment’ venues.

Whilst I think the club is getting some decent coin out of it, there’s just not enough incentive for me as a fan to go to the Casino to watch the away games. I’ve never been, but I daresay the sports bar probably has our away games tucked away on one of the little TV screens dotted around the bar, while the big screens play host to NRL/AFL/WWE/UFC replays.

I’ve wondered about this too. How do they treat our games? I haven’t watched a football game at The Star in well over 10 years.

The Star is our major sponsor but do they show our games on the big screen? or are we shunted to a little TV in the corner whilst the big screen shows UFC & NRL replays.

Has anyone here watched a game there in the last year or 2?

I haven’t watched a game there but the club always advertises that you can see games there and has pictures of the game in a bigger screen, particularly our Finals.

Also the Star sponsorship remains the one thing stopping me from getting a current jersey. I guess I’ll just be sticking with my pinstripes, which get more retro every year.

They show the games on the big screens.

I went early during the first season of The Star sponsorship because I was interested to see what it was like and it was actually pretty good. The game was on the big screen and they had the stadium announcer from home games there (can’t remember his name) and he was interacting with the crowd a lot and hosted a Sydney FC trivia thing before the game giving away free tickets for the next home game for correct answers.

I went a second time maybe a season later and it was very different. I had to double check that they were actually going to play the game on the main screen.

I actually hate going to The Star for events though. Went there during the World Cup for Australia v France and it was a joke. The security guys were being absolute douche bags (as expected) and the whole thing just seemed really poorly planned. They obviously had a lot more people to deal with than they expected and should have had the game in the auditorium rather than the sports bar.

We have a billionaire owner, why are we cosying up to these guys?

The last time I was there was at 3am in the morning during my bucks weekend, and they’ve gotten rid of the auditorium, and filled with with even more Brickies Laptops…

And the ad with the Sydney women is filmed on a building in Rhodes isn’t it?
Where they are being investigated.

It was still there at that time if I recall correctly, it just wasn’t used.
