Stay strong. Take it minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day and week by week. I’m 5 years without a burner and still get the cravings. It doesnt go away but it gets easier. Everytime you resist a craving, it’s a victory. Dont quit quitting, even if you slip up.
Not sure where else to put this but, as I just wanted a place to release, this seems like the spot. Forgive the rambling nature
So last night, kids are asleep, wife is out and I am six cans down waiting for the F1 qualifying to start… phone goes, mother in law (who also lives in Leichhardt) is hysterical, hyperventilating etc… turns out someone has broken into her house and legged it when she woke up on the sofa and saw him standing in the doorway. he obviously thought the house was empty and shit it when she screamed.
I cannot get hold of the wife so have the dilemma of leaving the kids or not… I decide to wake my eldest and get my two sons to all sleep in my room upstairs together and bolt it round there (despite the cans consumed). I get there, call the cops (who arrive within 4 minutes) and they bring the dog squad as they know of a guy breaking into empty houses in the area.
Finally get the mother in law back to ours, and the wife is home etc but everyone is freaked out - I must’ve checked the doors and windows 30 times before I finally went to sleep.
Went back to the house this morning for the forensics to do their thing.
Whole thing is ridiculously traumatic… i know worse things to happen to others but she is a 65 year old woman living on her own, no idea how she is going to go heading back there and staying on her own.
Thats wild, especially for Leichhardt. Trying to be reactive when you have kids is like a giant handbrake. Sounds like you handled it well with the 6 beer handicap also.
Im also in Leichhardt and it seems so out of character for the area, which is definitely not saying it cant happen anywhere its jus a shock.
Our dog was attacked last week at Memorial by a lady with a pitbull/mastiff thing… a shady looking character with a dog that was more security than companion.
Someone in their townhouse complex came home to someone robbing the place one day, ended up jumping out a first story window onto a glass table to get away. My old man got them on his dash cam casing the place the day before.
Was living in a share house in Brisbane and we got burgled. One flatmate really took it hard. They’d gotten in through a door on the verandah that lead into her room. At the very least she never felt safe in that place again.
Completely understandable too right? Home is home. That’s everyone’s safe place (you’d hope). Having that violated is awful, especially if you’re there when it happens.
Absolutely awful situation but well handled MrRooney and best case scenario that she’s unharmed and the bloke just fucked off pronto once disturbed. Were they able to work out how he got in?
Several break ins like that have occurred around where I live over the last few months, though in almost every case they have just taken car keys and gone for a joyride. My neighbour got done after leaving a laundry window open, but the most common one around here is they have a small kid with them who sneaks in a doggy door.
She is in the process of packing up for a renovation so house probably looked empty (all lights off aside from a tv that you couldn’t see from the street)
They went up the side and tried the doggy door
