It is pretty cool that the Commonwealth Bank were the winners for the baggy green auction, and the cap is going to be permanently held in the Bradman museum.

I know the smoke has been bad for a while now but it’s gone up another level in the North West today. Really it’s to thick to leave the house. Can’t be safe
I’m going to Victoria for a couple of days for some training.
Only thing I’m looking forward to is clean air.
So the key takeaway from ScoMo’s ABC interview is that he’s going to change fuck all on climate change. Can’t wait for next summer.
I think we’re at least seeing an acknowledgement that public perception of (in)action on climate change could be an electoral threat. That’s an enormous leap for the coalition since 2012.
He’ll just use the Royal Commission announcement as a means of avoiding questions on climate change (“The RC is dealing with that”), then fix the terms of reference such that no real change can take place.
Apparently he’s already doing that.
Next summer will probably be ok. Everything got burnt this year and won’t have a chance to grow back by then.
It’s not that simple.
Some of the ground has already been burnt twice. If areas that burnt this year do burn again next season you will really see some changes in the landscape.
And old growth forests are still be logged up north.
Up in Grafton, there was land that burned again after already being burned two weeks prior. I’m assuming that scenario could potentially happen anywhere.

The lack of regrowth on the ground is remarkable
No green shoots
Not even tony little ones

Had a bushfire go through next to Smith’s Lake (we say the full thing). Only the undergrowth was burnt, tree tops still all fine. All it’ll take is some more dry weather for the tree tops to dry out and easily a second bushfire in the area.
What was annoying, when we were up there, we had some on the in-laws friends join us for NYE (locals). And they spent the whole time bitching about my father in laws fire pit out the front of the house, going on about tourists coming up starting bushfires as they light up bbq’s and fire pits, pretty much having a go at the in-laws. We tried to explain to them that we’re obviously smart enough not to light the pit when there’s a fire ban, plus hose next to it etc. What they failed to grasp that of the two fires within a few k’s of us, the first was started by locals on Quads, flipping and spilling fuel which ignited. The second was started as council hadn’t been trimming trees back from the power lines. Branch fell on the lines, sparked and wham…
Melbourne is covered in smoke. Australian Open qualifying is on. A few players have gone ill. A ball kid has gone ill.
Way to go LNP and mining cunts. You’ve fucked the tennis.
Oh, and Melbourne City has recommended staying indoors and not excerpting yourself.
Who would’ve thought there would be these huge flow-on consequences from doing absolutely fuck all about reducing emissions? Who could have possibly predicted that this would have huge economic impacts on tourism, food producers, wine producers, health, sports and all other facets of society?
If only someone had been warning the government.
So rather than y’know do anything to address the cause of the problem, we are going to adapt to our new inferno climate. Brilliant.
Especially after the right side of politics has spent the last 10 years either denying climate change or sabotaging any measures to minimise its impact. I’d be speechless if it wasn’t so predictable.
Anyone not serious about fixing the problem before it gets even worse needs to get out of the way before it’s too late.
Greg Jericho’s analysis in the article I posted in the other thread is excellent (and scary).
Sometimes you just can’t keep politics out of sport…
He just needs to adapt and increase his resilience.
