Red Bull & Toro Rosso both use Honda power units.

You’re right, my mistake. Although they have used different engines in the past.
There’s at the most 8 2020 Ducatis.
That’s assuming Jack and Peco both got two at Pramac. One or two of those will be used by Aviantia next season.
What happens to the three 2020 Mercedes? Just get parked? They’d still do alright in the hands of another team next year.
Seems like the insane amount of money they spent on those cars is now a waste.
I think they may get used in some pre season testing and test driver days but essentially, yes, they are parked in a museum or bought by collectors and never see a racetrack again.
The MotoGP model is what F1 should pursue. You would think it would see more teams and possibly manufacturers enter the sport which is the best way to increase the bottom line for Liberty Media. At the moment why would a new manufacturer or team enter when it is becoming harder and harder to close the performance gap due to the restrictions being put in place?
Meanwhile, here’s something smiley.
Toby Price may have just come 2nd in a stage at Dakar with a rear tire held together with gaffer tape and zip ties.
Vid in the below link shows the state of his tyre. Today’s stage is the 2nd stage of a marathon stage. He couldn’t repair with anymore than he was carrying on the bike last night. And it looks like he was only 1:05 behind the stage winner today. THere’s an outside chance he swapped rear wheels with an other KTM rider, but that’s a 30 min penalty and with only 4 stages left an insurmountable deficit.

F1 will always be around. I think the primary reason the rules re sharing info, or old cars to other teams etc largely stems from the fact that the winning Constructor and Team (race & Championship) is significantly humungous.
Imagine (though not possible) a Football Team joined the A-League called ‘Jim’s Football’, and they could clone all of our SFC players, and they went on to win the Premiers Plate and Grand Final.
I’d be damn pissed off!
Formula 1 did have customer cars in the distant past and I think that worked out okay. It is doing itself no favours by not allowing them now, at least in the Covid era where finances are going to be squeezed tighter than ever for the lower-performing teams. They were struggling to survive before Covid hit. I know Williams were bought out recently and it’s secured their short-term future at least, but for teams like Haas and Alfa Romeo, I definitely fear for their futures. They must be questioning their investment into an expensive sport during these uncertain times, while seeing their cars struggle at the back third of the field. And if they go under, a similar pressure is passed back to the likes of Williams.
I still think Formula 1 will die in my lifetime. Manufacturers haven’t been interested in the same way or in the same numbers as 20 years ago. Almost every team had a different engine manufacturer backing them. Now the only manufacturers “joining” the sport are effectively buying an existing team and slapping their name on it. I can’t see the likes of Alpine, Aston Martin or Alfa Romeo having nearly the same impact on F1 in terms of effort, emotion or even branding these days than Ferrari or Mercedes do. Outside of the re-branding exercises, I don’t see any manufacturer who is even remotely interested in starting their own F1 team at a time new teams will probably be needed to replace teams on the outer.
Fernando Alonso got cleaned up on his treadly. 4 weeks till pre-season testing starts apparently.
F1 Drive to Survive new season has dropped on Netflix
So good… only done the first two episodes and it always intrigues me
We’re back baby! Shout out to Hamilton looking like the arch-villain, final boss at the end.
Yay! Parades!
Real racing starts in Qatar this weekend.
Really looking forward to this season…
Oh bless you Hilly. I love how you enjoy the bicycles. I’m sure there’s a couple of people outside of Spain and Italy who can enjoy it with you.
You should see the buffet!
I just binged the first two seasons but getting a bit over it now. The contrived commentary really gets to me and I feel like it’s worse in season 3 than it was at the start.
Formula one nerds love to shit all over Drive to Survive and its over dramitisation, fake commentary and liberties taken in sound and editing but it’s worth keeping in mind who the show is aimed towards and that’s people new to the sport. At that, it’s mission has succeeded incredibly well. The sport has apparently made huge inroads in the USA and Drive to Survive should take a lot of credit for that. My girlfriend absolutely loves it and is learning the names of the drivers and team principals and she’s a novice.
I used to watch F1 as a kid but drifted away as I got older but now watch it religiously and Drive to survive is the catalyst to getting me engaged again
