Sounds like a beep test for marathon runners. Heinous!

I’ve never thought of it like that but you’re spot on. The one difference is that the intervals are always fixed at 1 hour instead of progressively getting shorter.

The format is the brainchild of Gary Cantrell a.k.a. Lazarus Lake, an eccentric character behind the Barkley Marathons, a race that only 20 runners have managed to complete in the past 30 years.

That is insane

Phil gore is a legend, I’ve run a few events that he has been in and he doesn’t even seem human when he’s running.

He only stopped after 81 loops because the only competitor left dropped out. His personal record is 102 loops (684km) over 4 and a bit days, while the world record in a backyard ultra race stands at 110 loops (738km).

He’s awesome cause he’s one of those guys that will chat to you as you are doing your laps just talking shit and having a laugh.

Set the 10K, 15K, 10 mile, 20K and half marathon PR this morning at the Sydney Half Marathon.

1:56, 3 mins faster than last year. Running a half marathon every Sunday was the difference.

Hoping to crack 4:30 at the Sydney Marathon in August.

Well done mate, great effort.

I ran yesterday as well and and set a new 5k, 10k and longest run PB. Was running with a mate and went out way too fast as he wanted us to stick together… inevitably fell apart at the 17km mark with cramps and blusters kicking in.

Couldnt have asked for a better day and the vibe with the spectators dedinitely makes a difference.

Managed to clock 400km so far this year… I only managed 259km last year.

Still aiming for 1,000km this year

Cracked 1,000km for the year.

Started with 20km per week but increased to 40km per week since March with a half marathon every Sunday, and started running 3 half marathons a week a few weeks back.

On track to crack 2,000km this year with some big events coming up including Sydney Marathon, Backyard Ultra and Bondi To Manly Ultra.

Eliud Kipchoge and Sifan Hassan are coming to run the Sydney marathon. I’ll definitely be getting up nice and early and heading to town to find a good vantage point along the way. Don’t get to see athletes of that calibre for free very often.

It’s weird that technically I’ll be competing against Kipchoge in the marathon. This is how it must feel to be a part time footballer for Auckland City competing against Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the Club World Cup :joy:

Wow, massive effort. This year I’m sitting pretty on 150km, but hardly ran through most of summer and autumn. Getting the distance up now to tackle the coastal classic, crossing fingers Garie trail and beach opens in time.

Well done. Coastal Classic from Otford to Bundeena is possibly the most picturesque trail run in the world. I saw whale when I ran it last year.

Once I’m done doing ultras, that’s the event I want to do every year along with they Sydney Half Marathon each May. Good luck!

I arrived in Cairns on Wednesday for holiday. I saw that Cairns marathon was on Sunday and decided to enter.

Problem was I had brought my old shoes I had retired from running after 700km on them, but the chance to run an interstate marathon was too hard to pass.

Another problem is with all the sightseeing and two days out snorkelling on the reef, my legs were tired.

Then with less than 48 hours to go, I injured my left 4th toe while jumping into the pool. X-ray showed a small fracture. It hurt to walk but weirdly running was better.

I showed up at the start line thinking I will see how I go and DNF if pain gets bad.

But the pain never bothered me and I ran my PB. Met a young female pacer who was pacing for 4:15, who turned out to be a teacher at my nephew’s school. Talked and stayed with her for 32km before I slowed down.

Cairns marathon is flat AF. 7m over 42km is crazy.

Not sure what sort of goes on holiday and then on a whim decides to run 42kms on a busted toe, but respect where it’s due.
