The Techno Dystopia Thread

Useable VAR being 5-7 years away sounds about right too.

Sorry useable for what?

I feel like the tech is already there. VR and AR are around and usable.

It’s just no one can work out what we’re using to do, right?

I got a VR headset to play cricket on and it’s sick

Cockpit based games too, yeah?

Flight sims and driving games. But it’s pretty niche stuff
Not really the mass market fare that Apple is used to trafficking in.

Is one of the horsemen of the apocalypse named Network Error? It turns out he’s here now.

Why is all this stuff so shit these days?

I’m not being facetious.

Concentration of the market for stuff basically. There are only a few companies who do a lot of these infrastructure type things at this scale. So when one of them has a problem it hits a big chunk of the world.

Cloudflare had that outage a couple of years ago. Pressure sure AWS had one a while back too didnt they that basically ended up with half of the sites on the web being inaccessible.

Nearly every flight in the U.S. is grounded right now following a CrowdStrike system update error that’s affecting everything from travel to mobile ordering at Starbucks — but not Southwest Airlines flights. Southwest is still flying high, unaffected by the outage that’s plaguing the world today, and that’s apparently because it’s using Windows 3.1.

Isn’t SouthWest the one that does everything differently (and themselves) to all other airlines?

Instead of using the industry standard Gallileo system, they said “fuck that, we’ll do our own”.

And instead of allocated seating, it’s “sit where you want”.

If so, who’s laughing now hey?

So Twitter has been banned in Brazil after they refused to name a new legal representative to take on a case, in which the Brazilian government was demanding they remove certain accounts that were spreading misinformation. Elon Musk has stated that, if Brazil confiscates his property, he’s going to reciprocate and seize Brazilian property.

I honestly don’t know what that means
I mean should Brazilian BBQ places be worried??

Must be close to an overdose surely.
