There were some pretty big claims made about our brand new stadium’s ability to turn around a playing surface within days of a big event, yet some of the home pitches served up to us this year were embarrassing.

Yeah, this annoys me.

Either the SFS were just embellishing the shiny new stadia, and us fans lapped up the gravy, or the groundstaff knew that the demands on the playing surface were nigh impossible and just treated fans like the mushrooms we all are.

Suncorp has always been a horrific stadium. I think it’s got to do something with it being a sand based or something.

Suncorp ironically are replacing the turf for this weeks magic round. But yeah, 3 codes and a little bit of rain and the pitches turn into CDSFA fields very quickly.

Melbourne (as far as I can recall) doesn’t seem to be quite as bad (or maybe you just can’t see the extent of the damage through the flock of seagulls).

They no longer have rugby union to contend with, so unless the storm have 3 home games in a row it gets plenty of recovery time.

But surely you’d think that for our “biggest” stadiums (SFS, Brisbane, Melbourne Rectangular) that cop an absolute punishment from multiple codes playing each week (not to mention concerts), there’s got to be something better than the systems they currently have in place for repairing/restoring a decent field.

Why would they? It’s not like there’s any other proper options for the current tenants to play in. Yes there’s Parra, but that’s very much filled already, Stadium Australia is a soulless rectangle and the other options are basic suburban grounds

I dare say they can, but why would you spend extra money if you didn’t have to. They probably have set times they’ll change parts of the pitch and leave it at that. Again, like my first point, they have a cornered market and can generally do what they want. In the same way Hemmes doesn’t open half the food places because, why should he?

They had relaid the goal area for our last home game, though it was very obviously fresh turf.
