The travelling circus: stadia discussion

Last year it was released on the August 2 so I assume around then this year as well, enjoy!

A tidbit about the Allianz drainage in the article here, sounds like the pitch is going to be relaid at the end of the NRL season:

I wonder if this is going to see us play a few away games to start the season while the surface is relaid.

Here I was thinking it would be nice to start a season with nice, fresh grass and then I read that there is a union game on the week before the Wrexham match.

I look forward to watch the game being played on a very expensive cow paddock

Head curator caught by surprise?

Clearly doesn’t watch our games.

All in time for Kendrick Lamar’s concert in December.

I wonder if this is going to see us play a few away games to start the season while the surface is relaid.

Anywhere but Kogarah please. Like, if the choice is between Kogarah or starting the season with 5-6 away games in a row, I’d much rather the latter.

Surely they could set up something raised? Have pilons buried underneath and just put in a floating floor slightly above the grass so it’s not touching. One off payment that pretty much means you won’t need to worry about replacing grass

This is what happens when you don’t use Italian soil. :slightly_smiling_face:

All of December seems like write off - pretty much concerts all weekend until New Year?

Looks like we’re back to Kograh & Leichhardt this season.

Surely the club has a legal case if this is so

And the age old conversations can keep repeating themselves.

Got to love football in this country.

Next we’ll learn that the material used in our kit contains traces of asbestos fibres, or something equally absurd.

This coming season is shaping up to be a real pain in the balls.

This country does shit infrastructure.

I’m pretty sure we were talking about this on the forum back during its construction, how they were spending all that money but the field was the same as the old one. Considering how much it cost it is a very underwhelming stadium when you compare it the some of the stadiums being built around the world.

That’s because they’re not going to invest massively in a field that’s going to be destroyed in the first concert. I remember going to Anfield about 10 years ago and the first comment was do not even think about getting onto the field. Fields overseas are treated with almost a reverence in their need to seek perfection. Over here, they’re a bit of grass that’s in the middle of a stadium.

I don’t hear Transurban complaining.

No way Venues NSW is going to go without concert earnings so it would need to happen between mid-September and mid-December.

If you want a funny story, my father in law was tendering for a job in the SCG. They wanted to part of the roadway. He wasn’t the cheapest, but easily had the most experience out of all of parties quoting. They ended up going with the cheapest contractor, despite my FIL telling them it’s going to fail. Two weeks before the boxing day test, they call him up, begging him for help because the contractor had f*cked up completely. Ended up paying massive overtime, plus public holiday rates to get the job sorted, something they would have avoided by paying slightly more in the first place.

There was then a tender going around to remove the giant screens, right after they were installed at the SFS due to renovations.

We want to update you directly regarding potential changes to our upcoming A-League Men’s season following recent drainage issues with the Allianz Stadium pitch.
We have been made aware of the possibility that the surface may require a full renovation, which could see the venue unavailable for a significant duration during our season.
This is a hugely disappointing development, and we have made sure Venues NSW feel our anger and frustration at this decision.
Whether it’s increases in concerts or this maintenance, football always seems to wear the brunt of the fallout, which is disheartening particularly as the tenant who plays the most number of games at the venue.
We want you to know that we are fighting hard on your behalf to ensure the best possible outcome for our Members and our Club. We will continue to work closely with Venues NSW to minimize disruption and to assess all available options.
While nothing has been confirmed, given the narrative in the media, we want to keep you updated on the situation.
If necessary, we will be in touch with full details on how this affects your Membership, including alternative options.
Thank you for your ongoing loyalty and support. We will keep you informed as soon as we have more clarity.

Significant duration is annoying. I not keen on travelling to Leichardt (surely this can’t be an option - shit stadium, no facilities, minimal transport etc) and I am definitely not going to Kogarah for games.

Not to mention that it too had its own issues recently with the pitch not being up to standard, that forced the girls to relocate temporarily, IIRC.
