Where are they now?

Alfie just posted a picture of his families new puppy, called Sydney

Puppy looks sad.
Kind of like it went to India for a bit and when it got back it wasn’t quite the same.

Googles AI search.
“The name Sydney is a good choice for dogs because it’s gender-neutral, has a rich history, and has strong geographical ties. It comes from Old English and means “wide meadow”, which could symbolize the love and joy a dog brings to your life.”

But yeah
Would i name my new puppy as Sydney
probably not, but a Brit who played for Sydney FC might.

Lucky Alfie didn’t play for Real Salt Lake

Gonna be huge if he’s feeding it sausage rolls all the time.

I hope it can defend the house and not run half way up the street

“wide meadow” - is this what opposition teams see ?

I’d take him over De Jesus

he’s not playing any more

“I’ve enjoyed my time but need to step away from professional football for personal reasons.

“I want and need to be closer to my family in NSW, this decision has been difficult and was not made easily.

If he then comes out wanting to play somewhere else, based on those statements, i’d prefer to stay away completely. Same as the Snake using mental issues to get himself a contract with WS. But obviously purely hypothetical on that end.

On a “nicer” note, poor kid having to step back. Sounds like it’s not purely his own choice.

It’s a shame things have ended up like this. Some people here had high hopes for him. I wonder if he will end up playing in the NPL1 here. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him come the first round or two of the NPL season.

Not sure if it should be its own thread, but Stefan Kamasz has passed away

Lovely bloke, sad news.

Sad news. Was happy to have spent a little time with him at the fund raisers for The Cove.

Ninkovic still can’t let it go

Don’t want to get into the nitty gritty of it again, but the whole “Get citizenship or your out thing” pisses me off.

I don’t like the way he behaved afterwards, but from multiple reports we did him dirty.

I know football is a business, but telling him you’ve got 3 months or retire is pretty insulting. If I had been at a job for 7 almost 8 years and they told me that if I didn’t get something (that everyone knows takes more than 3 months) or I’m out, yeah I’d be pissed off too.

I still look fondly back on his time here. He was one of the best players we’ve ever had. He did deserve better.

If you listen to his words carefully, he says continually that the deal was get citizenship or retire, as this suits his natative best. At some point he slips up and says the deal was to get citizenship and if you don’t, we have another role for you. He wanted to play on, and was offended by the offer so he didn’t reply to the offer and started shopping himself around. It seems he could have, at a minimum, expressed to the club his desire to play for another year and begun a negotiation.

I dont know who is more pathetic this guy still carrying on about his legacy that he says in the same breath he doesn’t care about, or me, gobbling it all up.

I honestly forget he existed and his name no longer even comes up in my head when I think of the greats of our club, and that makes me happy. It’s like completely forgetting about an ex and truly moving on. He achieved nothing at Wests and barely played for them too which makes it easier/funnier.

He was eligible for citizenship long before this. I find it hard to believe it hadn’t been raised a number of times. While I also agree the club weren’t innocent in this disaster, ninko played us off against MacArthur the season before, to get the contract he wanted. He is willing to gamble everything & burn the fans just to get what he wants. I find it hard to believe anything he says now

I also don’t want to relitigate this whole saga, yet here we are
.

What is missing here is the years leading up to that point where it is likely the club was asking him about citizenship and the Serb kept deferring or stringing them along. So this whole “3 months or else” ultimatum probably didn’t come out of the blue, it was more likely a “we’ve given you ample time, now we need you to either commit or tell us you won’t”.

Also interesting that he admits the dressing room incident wasn’t just him wanting to congratulate his old team mates, but that he expressly wanted to confront Bimbi, which is something he previously denied.

At the end of the day, nobody is irreplaceable. Not even a “legend”. He can fuck off.
