Where are they now?

Ibini possibly off to Saudi Arabia or Thailand after rejecting a few A-League offers.

But it’s necessary.

The new Dave Carney, gotta fill those passport pages.

Bernie come back! (You can blame it all on me…)

Asian passport + his physique, pace and power = years of huge Asian contracts.

You were wrong …

I have no idea where he’d fit, but I’d take Bernie back in a heartbeat.

For the money, I’d rather have Ivanovic and Buhagiar. Yes, Bernie has the cult hero factor, but he rarely delivered. Sure, everyone remembers his screamer in the derby, but how many other goals can you remember him scoring ? Maybe he’ll come back a better player after his stints o/s, but he was very frustrating in his last season with us.

I don’t disagree, but to answer your question, I remember an amazing goal that he scored against Melbourne to help win the game while I was in the stands on Australia Day. For that he will always be a legend for me.

That goal in Melbourne was picked out in the Record Breakers doco as the moment of the season by Arnie and the team.
We were losing to MV who had been just about keeping within range that season, then Holosko and Ibini definitively told the league that it was our season.

Shane Smeltz signs for Gold Coast United

Guess his job working for big Clive Palmer fell through… company probably dissolved :joy:

Devlin player of the month. Will be a good replacement for ONeill if needed

4 goals in 21 appearances, where, if my memory serves me right, he was used purely as an impact sub in the last 20 minutes of the games isn’t too bad. Pretty sure he had one of the highest goals/minutes played ratios that year.

The problem with Bernie is that he’s barely spent any of his career as a regular starter. The last time was Arnie’s first season - 28 appearances, 2400+ minutes.

He had that horrible injury at Bruges, came back to make 20 appearances at just over 500 minutes for us on loan as an impact player, and since then has had all of 2090 minutes’ football in the USA, Korea, UAE and even in Canada. So since the end of that proper first-teamer 2015 season, he’s had 4.5 years where in total he’s played roughly as many minutes (2600 or so, including those 500 for us) as in that 1st season in sky blue.

For his sake as a footballer (note - this may be a different thing to his sake in terms of ensuring his financial security), he needs to find a club where he’s a regular trusted member of the first team to get his form and confidence up.

Coming back to us, he’d be an alternative to Buhagiar of Ivanovic, but would want way more money. It would be no use for his footballing career or his financial security.

Bernie is the perennial impact sub which surely becomes a bit of a vicious cycle as he doesn’t have 90 mins stamina in his legs so can’t ever start and so it goes.

Still an decent career for your twenties and early thirties on good money in some cool places (and Gosford).

Seba signed with Olympic!!!
