The Israel military now has full administrative control of the Gaza Strip for “years” ( forever ) & when Israel finds Sinwar he is a dead man. There will never, ever be a Palestinian state run by the Palestinian Authority.

Yeah great strategising by the Hamas leadership despite the “public relations” victory.

Hey don’t leave out us wacky crusading Catholics. We came up with ‘kill them all & let God sort them out’.

Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius. - Wikipedia.

Have you ever seen The Battle of Algiers? History isn’t suddenly over now, an oppressed people tend to continue to want independence

This has been the case since long before October 7 and everyone involved knows it.

Hamas or the PA don’t want peace either. Let’s not pretend they’re the good guys either.

The occupied and the occupier don’t bear equal responsibility for the occupation though.

Of course & I am 100% supportive of an occupied populace using tactics which would generally considered ‘questionable’ within the ‘accepted’ framework of war as history has demonstrated.

What occured on 7/10 was a grave tactical error & ensured they’ve wiped out any chance of a rapprochment for decades to come.

As it has been pointed out this all about religion.

Israel feels that it is all there because they are chosen people blah blah blah, goes back 4-5000 years so on it goes forever.

October 7 was called the ‘Al Asqa Flood’ after the mosque which the Prophet may or may not have visited blah blah blah.

Combine these two elements & the psychotic fucks on both sides then you have a stalemate.

Stalemate? Really?? I’m sorry but in current times, Israel is 100% not equal in atrocities. There’s literally video of Israeli settlers coming in and taking homes, kidnapping children, destroying livestock and just being shits, all in the West Bank. There’s armoured bulldozers going through Jenin right now, simply destroying shopfronts, not because they’re a threat to Israel, but to ensure any businesses that support people are no longer operational. While i’m not in anyway going to defend Hamas, especially for what the did October 7, a big portion lies in Israel being even more inhumane than Hamas. Listen to a few interviews with Senior Israeli politicians and you’ll very learn, this is about genocide. They want the land and they want to kill all the Muslims that won’t run away.

Political stalemate.

I consider each Abrahamic religion to be as terrible as the other.

Oh so Hindu oppression is fine and dandy??? You Modi lover!

I strongly disagree with this explanation of the occupation. Zionism was a secular, socialist movement of ethno-colonialism born in the pre-WW1 era. At the time, people of all three Abrahamic religions lived in relative peace in Jerusalem and the other major Jewish centres of historic Palestine.

Hamas uses religious ideology, but even Fatah does not - it has prominent Christian members as well as Muslim - and there’s a strong current of deeply anti-religious PFLP communists among Palestinians who are still around.

Lastly, a great deal of the settler movement and more vicious Israeli political factions are themselves secular ex-USSR Jews with no major religious motivation.

I actually agree with that. They’re using religion to bind people together and make it anti-muslim, but it’s more about nationalism than specifically religion. They want to take the land because they think it’s theirs, they use religion to justify taking things like farmland etc.

They’re essentially taking pages out of the Nazi’s handbook with Lebensraum, which is ironic as fuck.

The videos coming up on Reddit are absolutely horrendous. One Palestinian mum came out to literally find a Zionist with a rifle, walking away with her son. Another Israeli soldier shot a tire out from a truck because he felt like it. There was even a crazy interview with US Zionists. They’d settled in an area on the border with the West Bank. There was a wall built and they were living their life all fine. When Hamas attacked, all the Palestinians were forced out of the area, so they decided that all the farmland being run by Palestinian civilians was theirs

Like I was telling my South African father in law.

When South Africa is taking you to the International Criminal Court for war crimes, genocide and apartheid, you know you’ve fucked up.

While these are broadly true, they do miss the significant catalyst provided by the generations of endured and increasing bigotry, best exemplified by the pogroms of that time. This was mainly in Europe, but with developing Arab nationalism at the time, things were becoming less harmonious. “Ethno-colonialism” is a convenient hot button term to use that makes it looks like a sinister plot to go off and conquer lands new for aggrandisement or wealth and completely neglects the security aspect. It certainly can no longer be justified as such though and has morphed into full on acquisitional land grab and there is no will for any negotiation or hint that anyone has a way ahead that doesn’t involve the current two speed dispossession and genocide (drip drip during “peace”, balls to the wall during war).

With regards to the religious, it’s conflicted. There are ultra orthodox who refuse to recognise a Jewish homeland until the messiah returns.

Generally, religion is just a fantastic tool used for control and as justification for whatever underlying wants an arsehole or arsehole group may have. Great for rounding up people, deferring responsibility and so on, and is used by pretty much every religion. And given (controversial statement coming up) it is all made up shit, it can be nicely bent as needed, because no deity will ever rock up and say “Actually, what I meant was
” So tyrants around the world, whose every deed smacks of singular self interest and narcissism can do a bit of religious theatre and get a free pass for all kinds of shit.

Religion is “the opiate of the masses” – disconnecting disadvantaged people from the here and now, and dulling their engagement in progressive politics
