Bloody hell. Reading on it now, what sort of weapon (microwaves?) Would cause that?

It’s actually pretty clever by Israel.

I doubt it was microwaves. That would need to be very targeted- the devices were spread throughout the country. I imagine they hacked the pager network and forced them to overload exploding the battery.

A 10-year-old child is among the dead, and it seems like a lot of civilians were injured as well. “Clever” is not the word I’d be using. Indiscriminate and cowardly fit this attack better.

But they only use precision attacks against confirmed operatives…

So the story I heard, was that Hezbollah had just put in a massive purchase for pagers for all of its operatives. They were under the impression that Israel was hacking their phone networks and was locating senior Hezbollah operatives. They reportedly purchased the pagers from a new suppliers.

The attack is horrendous as it shows zero regard for collateral damage. A kid could have picked up a pager that was left on the ground etc. but it’s fucking clever as hell the fact that they even managed to do it. Assuming they produced the pagers with miniature explosives in there.

It’s like tapping the burners in the Wire, except with extrajudicial killing.

Yeah but that maverick McNulty would have blown them up if he could get away with it…

Cant see how pager batteries could do that much damage.

They can’t, I’ve seen video footage of the attack and the pagers explode. Lithium batteries generally create a huge amount of smoke and heat before generating a flash of extremely hot fire that’s impossible to put out. These are actually exploding.

Reports are that 2000+ people have been injured. You would assume the majority will be Hezbollah

It’s not batteries overheating via cyber attacks etc, it would be a supply chain hack where they’ve put explosives in the unit. Batteries catch on fire, not explode like that.

Massive storms have been hitting central Europe. 21 dead with staggering amounts of rain hitting towns in Poland, Romania, Czech, Austria and Hungary, with the storm set to move onto Italy now. One town in Czech was hit with 19 inches of rain in 4 days, whereas an Austrian town received more rain in 4 days than it did in it’s wettest recorded month back in 1950. Italy set to receive 100-120mm of rain from the same storm.

This, there are reports that they intercepted the shipment and put explosives in them to be remote detonated.

The thing I find worrying is that Hezbollah is not just a paramilitary group. It is part of the Lebanese government and a big player in the provision of social and medical services in Lebanon.
Was it only terrorists targeted?

Or if you are part of the broad Hezbollah organisation you are automatically a terrorist.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Further to the US involvement conspiracy, Taiwan announced yesterday that

On September 16 (US EST), the United States government announced that it had notified Congress of the US$228 million sale to Taiwan for the return, repair, and reshipment of spare parts for aircraft and related equipment.

Obviously this is more linked to containing the China threat and it is the 16th such deal the Biden administration has conducted with Taiwan but the timing is awfully convenient given that the pagers were made in and shipped from Taiwan.

Seems the Pager’s were actually produced in Hungary under licence from the Taiwanese company.

The AR-924 pagers were manufactured by BAC Consulting KFT, based in Hungary’s capital, according to a statement released Wednesday by Gold Apollo. “According to the cooperation agreement, we authorize BAC to use our brand trademark for product sales in designated regions, but the design and manufacturing of the products are solely the responsibility of BAC,” the statement read.

Now walkie talkies have exploded. Purchased at the same time as the pagers. Wild.
